They need not bring anything, just keep testing.

Aston if they want to breach, can do a lot in the wind tunnel.

Gear box, suspension, all seems to need work, and money allocation can go a long way

They could also onboard staff from other teams with some generous signing bonuses

So they finished 7th last year giving them 320 hrs, which is 100%. As of july 1st, they be 11th giving the 115% wind tunnel time or 48 more hours for a total of 368hrs.

Also remember most of the car was built in 2025, using 2025 budget. So worst case scenario, these are just funds that you'd normally allocate to the 2027 car. They're just bringing them forward and pooling them with what they normally would have allocated in upgrades from the beginning of the year till they release the B-SPEC. Sure there will be enough left over to do plenty more upgrades. Since the aero regs are the same next year, you can easily shutdown production in November or something like that. Keep designing and unleash Production on Jan 1 2027 to make new parts for the 2027 car.

from what I saw of Alonso's car at the beginning of FP1, it seemed to me they were running a pre-2022 era 'high rake' setup. Haven't seen that in these past 5 yrs on any car.

Bottas 1.2 faster on mediums and softs.

Honda was classed as the worst engine, as expected, but a source close to the FIA said they had been categorised in the bracket of 8-10% behind the most powerful.

That means they miss out on the extra chunk of funding that had been made available to any manufacturer classed as more than 10% behind, which was as much as $19m (£14m).

It's surprising because everyone had Mercedes as the best and overestimated their maximum power output.

Bit of a shame actually. I wonder how they measured it really? I believed the FIA were testing them on a bench. Did it happen that way?

Wondering if some of the issues experienced on track that result in the engine being turned down would also show up on the bench?

There is nothing to expect until the upgrades arrive. For now they try set-ups just to survive and bring the car home and acquire data, their are not chasing any performance.

You know there is the possibility that Alonso's thinks that AMR might not want him back, he's no spring chicken. Which might be why he said that "He's open to all kinds of thing". He's just being realistic. It's not always doom and gloom.

A total upgrade package of around 2 seconds before the summer break wouldn't really do that much in reality, considering the massive gap right now. And that the Ferrari teams get a PU update next race and then before summer break again, you'd expect them to gain quite a bit of performance too. Tough to see how next season the team will be fighting for podiums, so get why Alonso may call it quits this season unless he really thinks he can wait till 2028.
