Red Bull queries ADUO ranking as FIA pledges to review results

Jon Noble

The FIA will review the results of its ADUO rankings in the wake of a clarification request from Red Bull about why its combustion engine has emerged as Formula 1’s benchmark, The Race can reveal.

As reported last weekend, the FIA notified teams on race day at the Monaco Grand Prix of its findings on the performance of each manufacturers’ power unit from the first five races.

Its analysis of the internal combustion engines declared that Red Bull was the best, so it would not be eligible for any upgrades under the ADUO (Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities) catch-up mechanism.

That situation has prompted Red Bull to seek some clarity from the FIA about how the governing body came to its findings.

And following those discussions, The Race has learned the FIA has agreed to review its data from the opening five races of the season to double check its conclusions.

This will include evaluating the findings of power sensors fitted to each car that the FIA has used all season to check the output of each internal combustion engine.

The commitment to the review does not mean that its conclusion about Red Bull will change, but the FIA wants to be totally sure that its original findings are correct.

Further ADUO reviews of each team's engine will take place after the Hungarian and Mexican Grands Prix.

Ref the question why would Toto want Max in his team now? So that he is not in another team.
Driver ability apart, Max has a magic box he pulls tricks out of when all think he is not in the fight then he is suddenly right there. There is no term to describe it, but he has it.
(BTW, I am not a Max fan, but who can deny he has this almost supernatural ability?)
Go the Mclaren team thread or the Ferrari thread. I can guarantee that you will find atleast a dozen 'regular posters' who will. When the entire F1 paddock (drivers/engineers/bosses) agrees that Max is that 'never write him off, driver makes the difference' guy, there are many F1 aficionados even in relatively exclusive forums like this, who think they know better. Not a complaint, just an observation.
The operative word in your post above is, "I am not a Max fan". Many (like me) have to keep prefixing that phrase before a sentence praising the spectacular talent that Max Verstappen is, because otherwise it would almost surely get dismissed off as the opinion of "orange army ultras".
To paraphrase an American, I would prefer him in our tent "peeing" out than outside "Peeing" in :D
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

I actually refrain from complimenting Verstappen altogether nowadays because it directly labels you as a """fan""" and everything you say is "orange tinted".

But yeah for just this once.... Verstappen is the best driver and has been so for many years already. You have to blind to not see that.

Just a note from me to say how impressive Red Bull Powertrains have been.

It’s remarkable and deserves an awful lot of credit.

Yes there’s a way to go still to be race and championship winning but they are way ahead of schedule IMO. I expected a much rockier road initially.

Truly impressive work and as a man partial to McLaren (and Alonso), I simply tip my hat to the Red Bull team and their ever present ambition.

Not a great start unfortunately. 3 laps, all more than a second behind Russell with massive oversteer and understeer.

This car does not yet perform on medium-speed corners.

They´ll improve but that was to be expected.
Mercedes will be untouchable.

Long run pace looks much better in comparison to RUS funnily. Only 0,2-0,3 slower per lap

Pretty good!!

Let's see

I think the next race upgrade package needs to address the medium-high speed cornering deficit

They were on different sets though, Russell started on 10 lap old softs, Max started on mediums then moved to softs. Still, no one came close to Russells 1.20.9 even though it was only for 1 lap. Max's best was a 1.21.5s on the softs, much later in the run.
