Audi Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Audi Power Unit Hardware & Software

Post

I don't know if there's enough information available to deserve a dedicated Audi thread, so mods please delete if you see fit. It does seem that Audi are doing some interesting and unique things though, and I'd like to learn more about it! The gear-ratio chart pictured below was originally posted by AR3-GP, and really sparked my interest.

There have also been rumors that Audi are running a larger diameter turbo than the other engine suppliers, but I don't know how true that is. What is pretty clear is that they are going their own way, and the fact that they look to be quite competitive while doing so is fascinating!

Does this chart correct for Aston running lower max rpms? Or is the lower curve just because they are running detuned?

Agreed that Audi is on an interesting development cycle. Mad props to them for having a new PU be so good out of the box.

Audi R26 tests ADUO updated PU at Neuburg. Sounds interesting.

Blimey. That sounds like honda 2025 levels of off throttle management. Some exhaust blowing or cylinder deactivation, or perhaps both? That doesn't mean this is new of course, and i'm sure it's been around to a degree since launch, but it does sound cool none the less. Thanks for posting

Heard from several people that in person, Audi sounds the craziest and Ferrari the most pleasant. Tough to tell from TV.

Can Audi change their gear ratios under ADUO or any other reg? Not sure whether their odd gear ratios are helping or hurting them.

I think they're allowed to change it once, but not entirely sure.

Pretty true. I saw them earlier this year:

Merc - Similar to last regs.
Fez - By far the quietest engines on track. Noticeably so.
Audi - Very boisterous, lots of pops and crackles, reminded me of 2018 Honda
RBPT Ford - By FAR the loudest engine, higher pitch. Like this actually surprised a few of us how much louder they were
Honda - Same unique noises we were used to, also quite loud.
