As mentioned in his interview, Kimi didn’t see the correct flag and made a mistake sadly…
the team told him "yellow yellow" on the radio, so communication wasn't ideal either. Unless they have another radio code for double-yellow specifically.

I'm not sure what our mod just posted there, what he was trying to defend...
Have you considered the possibility that I am not for or against anything or anyone here? That I am just cutting through the handwaving and providing a concrete datapoint? He lifted. How much he lifted or if that is enough, is for each one to interpret or consider.

And of course, GP-Tempo has the goods. The alignment with his other Q3 lapand his Q2 lap is not perfect, bu tthe lift is clear to see. Again, is that enough lift? Up to you. He dropped about 20 km/h in average for about 1.3 seconds. Pretty close to 1 tenth of a second, 0.09 s by sampling certain points in teh curve and assuming 280 km/h for the segment.

It’s funny, as although GR did lift on the entry to the corner, he was still back on full throttle at the same time as CL and MV were on their previous laps. So he’s booted it before passing the green marker board. Speed similar to everyone else.
Would be interesting to compare it to GR’s 1st run in Q3 to compare.

However, as others have mentioned, it should have been a double yellow as soon as a car left the track in the highest speed corner on the track. The damage was bad enough that RBR got the spare tub out the trucks even though visibly it looked alright.

Definitely some lessons to be learnt going forwards.

Well yes, he lifted and fully lifted dropping at most 15 kph and it cost him almost no time (0,03s lost between lift off point and braking point). But is a brief lift off on the straight everything a driver needs to do?
Because then he took the yellow flagged corner at the same speed as the previous lap and even rolled off his brakes briefly mid braking (likely he realised, he was losing too much speed).

As I stated before, he perfectly gamed the system, but why bother with such a system, when it changes nothing safety wise?

That's from gp-tempo (T9-T10).

google search - GR pole lap S3 time - 20.042
Kimi best sector time - 19.998

so, 0.05sec worth of lift - is that really OK by you? I mean - seriously?
suppose GR saw VER going off, saw the yellow flag, thought - this is VER going off into barriers, I'll be past by the time he hits them, this doesn't concern me - just to crash into some semi stationary car on the exit of the corner

they are still human, he can't see 2 places at once, yellow flag, even single one, is a no joke scenario, but this precedent right here makes it so, I really hope they at FIA pull their heads out of Toto back side and do the right thing
and this is no hate on Mercedes, Toto or GR, this is about yellow flag situation and blatant ignoring of rules because of the show element of this spectacle that used to be a serious sport
You have been watching F1 long enough to know that yellow flags can be "gamed" around. This has always been a part of F1 since yellow flags were introduced. Even Montoya was commenting right after the incident that it's a no-brainer to lift only as much as you jeed to to please the stewards.

Antonelli needs to be shown the driving standards flag for the first couple of laps.

RedBull engine has raw ICE power!

Ferrari will be lucky to podium here. Antonelli has pace.
