He had tons of understeer in the first stint, he managed similar pace to charles and kimi midway through the first stint and asked for 5 on the wing for when he pitted iirc,

I know that. His second stint was much better but my point is that it happens often. I think he’s trying to protect the rears by dialing in understeer but he is very slow in the first stint as a result. He was very reluctant to pit also, which confirms that his goal was to make the tires last. But imo it’s just too slow to work most of the time and a safety car will often blow up that kind of strategy.

Couldn't agree more. It is a weakness. Cost him a comfortable 2nd today.

It would have been a comfortable pit into 2nd If he were just 5 seconds more ahead when he was called in.
Ferrari didn't cost him a thing as no one knew the race would finish under safety car. Rather, merc./Russel gambled and got lucky today.

Yeah lucky for Charles thay kimi had an issue...he would have eaten the monster alive. Ferrari are only really capitalising on merc reliability issues. Lewis didn't crash out on his home circuit as well. Charles silencing the haters would be him beating Lewis. For me both drivers are mediocre and have more lucky than skillful this season.

Slower than Kimi, faster than Russell, solid second force. Not too bad given the engine deficit

just remembered Merc are supposedly bringing a big upgrade package for Spa so might have to see how that goes

If Leclerc got his confidence back after this win I expect the next few races to compete for pole with no issues.

Mercedes are not going to utilize their ADUO. They didn't think they would lag on engine front hence they did not plan. Ferrari on the other hand knee they will need to change their engine as they were lagging quite significantly

Mercedes are not going to utilize their ADUO. They didn't think they would lag on engine front hence they did not plan. Ferrari on the other hand knee they will need to change their engine as they were lagging quite significantly

thats true but the issue is Merc with Kimi are still much faster than Ferrari rn now, had it not been for his issues towards the end Kimi would have won and now theyre bringing a package that could extend kimi's performance lead and possibly bring Russell back to being faster. Ferrari still have to wait until Monza for their second engine upgrade as well
