Toto Wolff: "Two situations. First, the accident that happened was unfortunate for us. We lost a lot of constructors' points and George drivers' points. We had an issue on all Mercedes engines that we lacked the power out on the straights. That hit him badly and it 100 per cent goes on us."

"We are trying our best as a team. We have the most powerful power unit, a strong car that is capable of winning. Everyone is giving their maximum to minimise the mistakes and still it happens because we are humans at work."

"We let Kimi down at Silverstone where George got a podium, which is maybe better than the result should have been. Then one DNF for Montreal, the other in Barcelona. That's a little bit of the story of our season. It's a technical sport, a mechanical sport."

"We came out with a product [power unit] that is so strong and I'd rather fix the reliability rather than accelerate a slow engine, or slow car.

"We are giving it 100 per cent and need to give it 100 per cent because we lost a lot of points with reliability. We should be much further ahead than we are."

finally a win that should have come earlier for Kimi

there are, I don't know, 10s missing from the classification due to the VSC, nevertheless I would be worried if I was a Mercedes fan, Ferrari were fully thereabout in terms of pace, and they are due at least another upgrade package PLUS the ADUO 2 PU which could prove a game changer for the last part of the season, Mercedes better improve the car quickly

also, I think they will have to start backing Kimi, George is unfortunately too far behind and his season is lost, plus he has no pace compared to Kimi at the moment
Mercedes have a significant package they’re bringing after the summer break.

Wolff claimed other Merc cars and Kimi had a similar issue on the start with the deployment as well.

We have Antonelli, and the two McLaren's to compare to. I don't need to point out which line is Russell. Seems a bit of a dishonest statement by Wolff.

Do you honestly believe in this chart? Russell was going through la source at 190 kph and on the straight to Eau rouge he was at 80 kph?

EDIT: OK, looking at the proper data:

Top speed before Eau Rouge:

VER 319 RUS 310 LEC 302 HAM 299 ANT 299

Kemmel Straight:

LEC 335 HAM 331 (--- data, prob more) ANT 318 RUS 316 (on the tow, more like 310 without it) VER 306 (and pretty clearly worst of all in this part)

Russell boosted more in the run to Eau Rouge.

with the situation in middle east right now, there is a good chance that both Qatar and Abu Dhabi race will be cancelled. And this should favor Kimi if he can extend his lead in the new few races.

Well, your consideration would make much more sense of we were 5/6 races from the end of the season; but we are only half way through, so it's too early to start doing calculation. Mercedes must recover some pace.

Spa was never a good track for Russell. This is what 37-39 y/o Hamilton did to him:

Mercedes F1 team will start to bring updates to next races especially Hungary… frankly nothing to worry about for this team apart from reliability issues…

Thanks, some relevant data at last. Looks like George is being a bit dramatic. Or political to get the focus on his car.
