That feature is almost certainly there for vibration control. Similar to how different guitar string gauges alter their natural frequency and the tones they produce, increasing the section thickness changes the arm's stiffness and mass, shifting its natural frequency and damping characteristics. That helps move resonance away from the critical operating range and reduces vibration transmission. I'd presume they redesigned that arm specifically for Hungry.
I was expecting more mercedes or Audi style sidepods revamp to improve cooling and spacing. This is the opposite. Not sure if its good considering no ther team has gone in thid direction.
I don't think that those are the main problems Aston is facing, also sidepod inlet shape has more to do with airflow management rather than just cooling requirements. Looks like they are happy with underbite sidepod inlet.
AMR use a pull cooling. So the way the cooling is setup, as air goes over the vent section, it pulls air through the front of the sidepod.
Probably referring to the underbite inlet. It is strange that they persist with this design when everyone else went overbite a long time ago.
Why do you care what everybody else is using? if you want a clean airflow below the sidepods, you increase the underbite. That sends the dirty air created by the inlet over the top of the sidepods. There you can use the mirror connectors to clean the airflow over the sidepod. It also keeps the flow of air under the side pod very clean. Nobody has as big a sidepod undercut as AMR26. That is likely why they're doing what they doing. Wether it works, it's another story.
