The engine looks atrocious. The only hope we have is the new revision is much better than the current one.

The upgrades look quite good actually, big performance uplift and still there are gains to be made from setup, but the engine issue looks too big to overcome. Whatever aero work the team brings it will be quite useless if Honda does not improve.

And vibrations are back again...
You realize this is a fault of the chassis. Not the PU. The PU still has it's counter-measures.
It's quite useless to gather data for the team if one car can't run. Whatever PU upgrades Honda brings is useless if the car falls apart or the gearbox shudders to death.

Perhaps they need to send the car to Sakura and have Honda look at it again.
I'm not sure it's the same kind of vibration as before. It's very audible in 7th gear near the top end of the rev range. You don't really notice it before that.

The bad part, the *really* bad part is that it seems the vibrations back; there are even reports that Alonso let go of the steering wheel on a few occasions, just like at the start of the season. We’ve seen this movie before.
he was letting go to rearrange himself in the seat, not for vibrations as far as i could tell (unless the engine vibrations were causing him to slide down). he kept reaching down to push himself back in the seat. seems like a few drivers are having problems with their seating positions this year.

Chassis showing lots of signs of promise, and the car is still overweight.

Apparently they reverted alonso rear suspension after strolls incident. Does that mean to old spec or do you think they were testing something

While Aston made changes to the rear suspension, team chief Adrian Newey suggested the failed part was not one of Aston's upgraded components.
They said that the suspension piece that failed was not a new spec part, but I don't blame Newey for wanting to change some parts after that Stroll failure considering Senna 94 etc.

I don't see that. I see tire marks from wheel spin on the outside tire that didn't break. Don't see anything from the inside tire. Anyways we'll find out the cause.
Well the other side was already broken. Wheel spin or not it was because the car was going sideways because of the breakage.
Newey said it was a part that they didn't update that broke.
Cool, but the discussion was about tire marks

Cause I decided the conversation wasn't worth the effort. Not like I could come up with convincing testimony from my keyboard of what happened. Anything I could come up with is just a guess based on the way I saw it.

I haven't seen any evidence of these claimed vibrations.

Or the counter measures just don't work for the new chassis.

Not direct evidence, but presumably a direct quote in an article at the-race.com,

Oscillations were visible on both drivers’ onboard cameras during FP1, which suggested the return of the Honda engine-related vibrations that the team struggled with at the start of the year.

When The Race put that to him, Newey said: “The oscillations, yes, that's really a question for Honda. They can see it on the data and they are working on the solution.”

Sounds a bit odd, they had vibrations at the start of the year, fixed them, and they've come back with the new car but old engine, but Honda can do something to fix or improve them?

I was going to say it's also a bit curt to bat it Honda's way, given the past history, rather than say "we're working on it and think we can dial it out" or something to that effect, but maybe I'm over analysing the words.

Somewhere or other I also saw a supposed quote from Alonso that things were improved in FP2. Puzzling / intriguing if true.

Edit: over at autosport,

"Yeah, today we had some vibrations on the main straight, especially in FP1," he said. "I think the guys fixed it more or less for FP2, so yeah, there are no concerns for tomorrow."

They also said they added lots of weight to remove the vibrations, and presumably some of that is removed in this new chassis. So hopefully the new PU from zandvoort also has some vibration mitigation. I have a feeling that is at least some of the reason, we have the new chassis but still the old PU for this weekend only.

They fixed it mid way through the 2nd FP so I'm not sure why you're still talking about it. And no they didn't say if Honda fixed it or AMR F1.

The New Honda PU is in Hungry and will take part in a filming day in the new car next week.

Maybe the vibration dampeners needed to be adjusted for the new chassis.
