Personally i can see Heidfeld going to be with Bob at Renault, as im sure that Sauber isnt gonna hang arround for long. Schumacher should be announced as soon as posible.

Id make a rule that teams should have all their driver lineups confirmed before the last friday before christmas. Same with engine deals and such as well.

Thats would really spice things up a little for the teams, media & fans alike.

Even better, they should each get a seperate week to make annoncements. Team 1 on week 1, team 2 on week 2. The allocation is drawn out of a hat. Then we'dget something every week. Would also be interesting if Merc's week had been before Button jumped and all the schumi rumours started ;)

Or done on constructors posistions the season before. The last team must confirm first, or for real confusion, the first team must confirm the day after the last GP. Or 7 or 14 days after the last GP.

And make it that if a team such as Toyota wants to pull out, they need to do so before the 50% mark of the current season.

Lets put some real confusion and rushing about for teams as well, lets do what is done in many football leagues. Have a 2 week winter shut down to mirror the summer one.

Even better, relegation/promotion with GP2 for drivers and/or teams.

I did say it, that would be a good idea. Lets have 3 leagues; F1, GP2 and GP3. Each league has 24 or 26 cars, with relegation and promotion being 2 up-2 down. But the thing is there would have to be a standardised Chassis for this to happen and more engine suppliers in GP2 and GP3 other than Renault.

Lets spice up motorsport, give the fans something to talk about.

And for the races, GP3 is 110km +1 lap, GP2 is 220km +1 lap and F1 races should be 350km +1 lap. And to make sure theres time each weekend, have GP2 & GP3 follow a F1 style weekend.

TV companies would like this idea, and could be the future of the sport eventually.

Looks good on paper until you realise that any wealthy individual can afford a GP2 team as there are no supercomputers, wind tunnels, high end 3d design studios or autoclaves required vs F1 where the investment required is several orders of magnitude higher and out of reach all but the wealthiest investors.

So imho, a relegation/promotion system for F1/GP2 et al is a pipe dream!

why not have a multi race weekend after all ,lke in karting ..
all comers are welcome .
the top 10 teams are set to participate in the proper event ,6 slots are up for grabs in the runup to the main event.
Starting one day early the teams which have no slot allocated have to practise on
Thursday and qualify on Friday for a shootout race ...the top 6 of which are allowed to qualify their cars on saturday ...
Of course ,all these wil not have a permanent pit ...but this is something every team has to manage somehow in the lower formula ,so it is not out of the world to run your car out of the paddock imo.
After half season the points standings decide on the top teams ,so the established teams are not affected as long as they have two good performers or one excellent and of course they need a good car as well..
This way around the fridays would dramatically increase in attractivity ,with racing F1 cars and it would create a situation were any new team has the chance to get some TV presence ,as well as exposure ..good for getting sponsorship..
as long as theres more teams than starting slots the system works ,but with the
cost reduction coming this seems to be starting point of a situation as in the 70s
with 30 cars trying to make the grid on some events.

I thought this was the silly season thread.

I will be really surprised if M. Schu returns, I believe that neck may keep him from it and the risk of his rep, he may test some to see if he is up to it, but as much as we would like to see him back, I believe it a fool's errand!

He needs to find something else to do!
