I agree, McLaren never have and never will be a B team. Would be great to see them build their own engine but thats not what they have been about. A great team that has helped form F1 into what it is today.JoeE wrote:Merc have been great supplying the amount of engines they do with a very high standard and that's dam great for F1.
As for McL been a b team then no, they and merc hav been very good partners over the years and I firmly believe that they are still good mates who just have different paths to go.
But come 2013 McL will be building their own in house engine. It's the next step for them now they have entered the road car business. There's even talk off them buying BMWs engine IP but that's stalled this few weeks with no news so who knows
The topic is not about ML being a B team. They are not and will never be. The topic is about Mecr having their own team now, will they play fair and provide ML with the engines as good as for MercGP or will they give them the worst-spec engines?dave34m wrote:I agree, McLaren never have and never will be a B team. Sorry to go off the "B" spec topicPup wrote: And I also have no idea if there is much difference between what Petronas, Shell and Mobil offer.
it is called "Mclaren to be Merc 'B' team?"JoeE wrote:The topic is not about ML being a B team. They are not and will never be. The topic is about Mecr having their own team now, will they play fair and provide ML with the engines as good as for MercGP or will they give them the worst-spec engines?
How can you say this topic is not about ML been a b team wen it named such the way it is?
Yeah good question. i was of the understanding that the Mobil tie-in with Mercedes in F1 extended to road-cars OEM supply too (Mercedes has definitely recommended Mobil in their dealerships in the past).gibells wrote:Sorry to go off the "B" spec topicPup wrote: And I also have no idea if there is much difference between what Petronas, Shell and Mobil offer.but where does this leave Mobil? Could it be that Macca and Mobil will be united once more? I can't see Mobil being willing to let all their hard work go, or would the arrangement between Mercedes and Petronas be purely of a commercial nature? Or could it (Mobil) possibly give Macca and FI some kind of advantage over the works team?
