Re: Silly season 2010

Everywhere, Saturday: Formula One journalists spend most of their time deliberately cooking up silly rumours to trick syndication agencies into publishing nonsensical stories, it has been revealed today.

Last week a Spanish website ran a story claiming that three-time world champion Nelson Piquet had purchased a stake in the Campos F1 team so that his son would be guaranteed an F1 race seat in 2010. This turned out to be a joke for the traditional Spanish “Day of the Innocents,” similar to April Fools’ Day, but it led F1 journalists to reveal that such occurrences are not uncommon.
Many Formula One reporters privately detest certain so-called “syndication” websites, which do no original journalism but pass off F1 stories as if they are their own work. Making up the occasional false rumour, it has been reported, is an amusing way for real journalists to show up the lack of actual work done by their Internet-based rivals.
“Originally it was all quite pleasant and subtle, with unlikely driver moves or sponsorship issues being raised, when they had no actual basis in reality,” one esteemed journalist said earlier. “But recently we’ve been upping the ante to see what these guys are stupid enough to fall for. Sebastien Loeb driving for Toro Rosso, Anthony Hamilton buying Renault, even Ralf Schumacher making an F1 comeback – as if that would ever happen. So far these have all been reported as fact by various syndication websites….
<ten-minute rant deleted>
“…which is why they should all be rounded up and have their Internet connections forcibly removed,” he concluded.
It has even been reported that there are whole websites dedicated to making up obviously false stories about Formula One, though this is obviously too silly to be true.

De La Rosa to race for BMW Sauber for 2010 "barring an earthquake"

Quick Nick seems to have been put aside once again, but i think that he could be headed to Renault now as the only big seat outside Toro Rosso seat that Algusauari seemingly has according to his managemant but is still to be confirmed with.

You know i've always suspected that "quick Nick" was a title dripping in sarcasm - the only reason he's been in F1 so long is because Mario T likes him and now that he is gone with BMW's exit, Nick wont get another competitive drive imo.

Tell us about your idol Webber. How many seasons did he hunt his first F1 victor? I don't remember who of the two drivers had to wait longer for a competitive drive. Nick has never been in a #1 or #2 car. and Webber only got a victory when he had a chance in a Newey Red Bull. 2010 may be his last season if Kimi comes knocking next year. So what is the point of knocking Nick here with an armchair expert's attitude? Nick had a number of offers which he passed to wait for Mercedes. That may have been a bit risky. He is still a very solid driver and I hope he will find a good drive.

The PeDLeR being better than Nick is absurd... I hope this another one of those ridiculous stories out of Spain, like the PK thing last week.

I see where youre coming from there. I think that Nick may have to have a year out of F1 before BMW announce that in 2011 they are headed to ALMS then, and then Nick could be permantly over there and his F1 career will be over then.

Ouch! That's a pretty harsh reply on someone's opinion. Pulling Webber into it is completely irrelevant for the quote used.

If its a matter of De La Rosa, Heidfeld or Klien, i think its going to come down to money brought in.

The more i think about it, the more i realise how poor a state BMW left the team in..
Sauber don't get 09 prize-money, have lost long-time sponsor Petronas/Syntium, FX-Pro has gone to Virgin, BMW money has disappeared, Credit Suisse left last season, Intel down-sized their sponsorship last year.. That only leaves T- Systems as a technical partner!

I rather think it totally relevant. It may help to show that such negative remarks can be made with equal or greater justification about his preferred driver. Perhaps we will get some thought process going which will lead to a more informed and balanced opinion in the end.

Heidfeld will get a drive, Renault is still there.
PDR will probably go to Campos, and Heidfeld to Sauber or to Renault to settle the score with Kubica.

on pure statistics dela rosa is not a guy you would ever consider:

comparing points bagged vs grand prix he is even worse than Wurz and not better than klien ,actually all 3 of them have not done a lot of races interestingly enough.. so in terms of a grandprix driver they are not experienced.
but where dlr really lacks is in Qualy ,where he had a average p 15 whereas Wurz and klien 12 and heidi 11 ..

all things considered he needs a very deep pocket really to buy him a seat otherwise Heidi is the one you need to have.

These stats mean nothing when talking about Pedro.

I would be more interested in how many Grand Prix winning cars he has had a serious hand in developing, as his strengths are as a tester.

With less test time, the racers need the butt time in the cars, so following that logic, Pedro is a good choice.

Heidfeld's wolfman beard has been scaring away the aero guys for a while.

cant really judge the PeDLeR's career by points, but watching him race since the start of his F1 career I can tell he just does not have "IT"... and he has much less of "IT" than Nick does.

Its funny how quickly people forget how silly Nico made Wurz look when Williams made the mistake of giving him a race seat... same would happen for the PDLR.

Test driving and racing are totally different... yes WURZ & PDLR are great consistent test drivers... but when they got race seats they were consistently SLOW, and very passive, not aggressive at all.

Plus the man is like 40... and lets face it, he doesnt have the resume of the other 40+ y/o comebacker in 2010

BS!

Pedro was nearly on pace of Kimi when the tennis boy hurt himself. And Kimi was better than anyone that year by a mile. De La Rosa is very fast and a great development driver (+1 to Giblet)

I've nothing against Nick, he deserves the seat just as well. + I'd love to see Klien back.
