2010 F1Technical Sporting Working Group

Post

Since its silly season with new rules and things to spice up the sport (The Show as Bernie likes it to be called) and make results more un-predictable, what changes would you make for the 2010 season on the sporting side???

Points? Shortcuts? KERS Usage? Pit Stops? Tyre Compounds?

Anything that could be covered in the sporting code, to improve the sport, what would you do???

Add 'grid location loss for total number of season points'

I am terrible at that. So, the driver drops certain number of positions in the starting grid based on the total number of season points, like 1 position for every 20 points.

Changing slow/high down force races (read:processional) to two half fuel sprint races would be awesome. Just for say Hungary and Monaco.

Heres what i was looking at;

Points system for top 12 drivers:

P1 = 20
P2 = 16
P3 = 14
P4 = 12
P5 = 10
P6 = 8
P7 = 6
P8 = 5
P9 = 4
P10 = 3
P11 = 2
P12 = 1

Other Points:

Quali Pole = 1 Point
Fastest Lap = 2 Points (Must be in top 12 to gain fastest lap point)
Most Overtakes In Race = 3 Points (Must be outside top 12 for this one)

Tyres:

Quali 3 Guys = 2 stops mandatory with 1 fresh set of tyres avalable for race. Also must start with tyres they finished Q3 with.
Quali 2 Guys = 1 Stop mandatory with two sets of fresh of tyres avalable for race. Can start on a fresh set of tyres.
Quali 1 Guys = Theese guys can take advantage of a set of hard tyres that can last a race distance, no stops required. Can start on a fresh set of tyres.

Bridgestone to have 3 spec compounds;

Hard = Harder than current hard. (+ 0.5 a lap slower on the Medium compound)
Medium = Somewhere between current medium and soft.
Soft = Current Super Soft but about 4 laps harder in comppound. (-0.3 a lap faster on the medium compound)

Quali:

Each driver must do a minimum of 15 laps in Q1, 12 in Q2 and 9 in Q3 to get fastest time activated.

Wet Wether;

A set or two more of Wets and 2 sets more of inters per race for each driver for saftey purposes.

Weekend Tyre Allocation:

Hard = 1 set for bottom 8 in Q1 (No rumming time in practice for this compound)
Medium = 5 Sets
Soft = 4 Sets
Inters = 5 Sets
Wets = 5 Sets

Are you serious!!!? They are the most complicated rules in the world....probably put off all but the biggest fans! Imagine Sunday being Legard constantly going over and over the rules for people new to the sport! Its boring enough hearing them explaining the green stripe on the tyre every race weekend! Just leave the sport alone.

See how this year pans out with no refuelling. If its good leave it alone! If its bad then proceed with banning DDD and maybe then a few tweeks.

Even if this season is good banning of DDD's for 2011 is essential. The increase in the dirty air behind the car due to the shadow diffusers was immense, there removal would surely improve the chance of overtakes.

Gascoyne and Newey have both stated that the double deck diffusers did not really influence overtaking possiblities. They both are sure that the overtaking difficulties are down to other regulation points.

They have been banned to reduce speeds and limit the development potential (waste of money) in this area.
