That is actually true, but the story happened long before and after Formula 1.

The Nordschleife was finished 1927 and was inaugurated in the same year with the German GP won by Otto Merz.

Caracciola won the German GP on the Nordschleife first in 1928 and developed the habit of using the ditch which was soon copied by others. Approximately 1931 the banking was fixed by a concrete construction give or take a year or two. This corner design remains unchanged to the day except for some ARMCO added in the seventies.

It is one of the best spectator points on the track because the cars take the Karussell relatively slow and can be filmed from a high vantage point on the inside.

From 1950 the track received F1 status and the European GP Championship became the F1 World Championship.

2001 for the 100th return of Caracciola's birthday the Karussell was officially renamed Caracciola-Karussell.

Maybe AVUS with a "wall of death" is the second one?
Rosemeyer holds record for it I believe.

Yes, two F1 races were held on AVUS. A non championship F1 race in 1954 and the German GP in 1959. Race days at the AVUS had 350.000 visitor per day! It is indeed Bernd Rosemeyer who holds the record of the fastest lap with an average lap speed of 276,39 km/h in the 1937 race.

But who was fastest on the Nordschleife's original layout?

Must be Lauda in 1976.

Well, some Wikiing)) shows that there were modifications made @ 1967, so it must be Jim Clark.

Over to you, timbo! I believe it was Lauda who broke the 7 min barrier and lost an ear in his accident.

Well, my question is probably not very good as I don't know definitive answer, although I have my version. Anyway, who was the first Russian Grand Prix driver?

The first Russian Grand Prix was held in Saint Petersburg in June 1913 and was won by Russian driver G. Suvorin in a Benz 29/60 hp. I go for him.

And in case you think of this gentleman I give him a shot as well:

The first Russian Grand Prix driver would appear to have been ‘Sergey Dimitriewich’ who drove for Renault in the 1908 Grand Prix, finishing eighth. ‘Sergey Dimitriewich’ was apparently a pseudonym used by Count Alexander Vetchinin (or Vetchinine), a wealthy St Petersburg socialite. He also used the pseudonym 'Dimitri'. He was killed practising for an event near Moscow in June 1909. He has an entry in 'Motorsport Memorial':

To add a bit of folklore I would also mention the biggest russian motor racing fan in the 20th century. It happend to be Stalin's son Vasiliy Stalin. At the end of WWII he had the red army hunt down the Auto Union race cars and financed his own SOKOL GP race team which copied the Auto Unions but was never sucessfully in the West. The Russians had problems with the carburettors of the cars.

Yeah, the first I aware at proper Grand Prix, is this one.
Although there was an earlier race at 1898, won by Pyotr Belyaev, first motor-race in Russia, although the winner had actually a tricycle it seems.

In this case I will post another riddle:

Name the designer who first developed a mid engined formula race car with scientific methods and the help of a wind tunnel and won a championship. What was the name of the racing team and their most successfull driver.

Hint: Their wind tunnel was made from 8 cm thick concrete with the record flow diameter of between 8.5 and 12 m.

That must be Dr.Porsche. The team Auto Union and Rosemeyer?

Phil hill in the 1961 Belgian Grand Prix, and of course Michael Schumacher in the 1997 Monaco Grand Prix. The Monaco race was cut short.

Damn, I knew that, too late. :)

Edit: Oh wait, is that really Spa? Looks like Aintree to me, it was a wet race in '61...
