I have no idea in what shape and air capacity ionizers can be made, but this is something I've often though about as a way to increase engine power. Two hints shown on pic. Perhaps it could be layered on inner side of airbox walls for greater capacity?
Ever felt how car you drive has extra power just after thunder storm, as the rain stops? That is as much as I've heard because the air is ionized. The rest was my imagination and logic.
Well, they are looking at/developing ionizers in PC applications in addition to fans keeps components cooler. they are looking to have small ionizers on main boards instead of fans as well.
Not sure if Manchild's idea is a dead end, but it might not be.

Hmm, I wonder if Manchild has confused ionizer with ozone generators. Ozone is a powerful oxidizing agent. UV ozone generators, or very-ultraviolet (VUV) ozone generators, employ a light source that generates a narrow-band ultraviolet light.
But ozone can be nasty stuff, and isn't "green".

I friend used to grow some vegetables hyrdoponically indoors, and had a pest problem that affected his harvest, so he bought an industrial strength ozone generator, and it killed them off.
I borrowed it, and ran it for 8 hours while at work, ran inside to shut it off, and ran out again and stayed at a friends for 4 or 5 hours while it aired out.
Not a single flea, ever again. Deadly, and can turn 'your lungs into butter' according to my pal.

During colder conditions an engine can have up to 10% more power at normal atmospheric pressures. Reason, the air is more dence, and there is more oxygen for the fuel to get more of a complete combustion from.
I get the idea, but i doubt it would be workable.
One workeable idea i would have thought would be better would be for a honeycomb in the air box, try and get the air to travel faster in to the engine. Think of a box of straws and youll get my idea.
Dont get me wrong, i like the idea and concept, but the sheer weight of the unit would probably be prohibitive i think.
I've drawn them green just to stand out more. I actually had in mind kind of ionizers that are sold as home appliances. So, same principle for different purpose.
