Mclaren Mercedes MP4-25

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

They've split the brake duct inlets into two to divert some more air to the rear wing!

From BBC
Button and Hamilton are alternating in the car this week, with Button driving on Thursday and Saturday and Hamilton on Friday and Sunday.

That gives both men the chance to try out a major upgrade package that will be fitted to the car on Saturday and which will be pretty much how it will race in Bahrain.
I have heard it includes a new floor. They are hoping it will bring nearly 1 sec. Fingers crossed!

I expected to see some radical changes to the rear of that McLaren, but im left disapointed.

Why can't they just make it simple, by using the hole behind the drivers helmet as a source to feed that rear wing? The driver could simply move his head on the straights...

Also... that snoorkel is higher on the recent shots? Why have it higher? Maybe there was not enough air there...

Maybe that snoorkel is a decoy... :)

Im surprised you cant see why they wouldnt update their car!?! As an upgrade to the diffuser normally requires a new floor what do you think about Mercedes saving their new diffuser till bahrain!? Why are they bothering running in this test!?

If Merc are doing that... they must be confident.

It took most teams 1-2 months to copy the DDD Design that Brawn had last year, so even if they was to show there cards now (Like Macca have done), it would be April / May before they manage to implement their ideas... too late to do any serious damage.

I think the whole in-season ban should be lifted personally. Would actually reduce costs in my eyes. Maybe they should instead implement a maximum mileage they can do on a test track all year!?!

'New' front wing (or endplates). A more simple and Mp4-24esque one.

after testing these beautiful endplates now for so long and never racing them in 2009 again now they look into older design ,I wonder if those elaborate beauties are a petproject of the Aerodepartment and they just cannot believe they don´t net a benefit...?

The two main elements of the front wing have also slightly changed shape. Less cascade shape, straighter as the angle down towards the middle.

Also much longer side pod vanes than yesterday, nearly full length

Similar but not quite. Last years season ending front wing was a Brawn style one single element

I wonder what they are actually doing... is it only for testing or are they finding a new problem now? :? And wasn't the Brawn endplate a two piece affair similar to what Lotus/Sauber have now?

didn't last years have one main wing now its split in two

edit: beat me too it lol.

Seems they have kept the new front wing design, but reverted to last years end plate design.

:| again mclaren reverts to old school FW endplates, i wasnt worried before but this cant be good news, they tested them how many times last year, and for three tests this year, but they still choose an old design. Maybe their tools is not so well calibrated as we thought :(
