Mclaren Mercedes MP4-25

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Those new sidepod covers over the exhaust are removable panels - will be interesting to see how much they vary them from race to race. Presumably these are the extreme version for the hot climate at Bahrain and we'll see other versions of them for cooler races.

This video would explain why the Macca / Ferrari boys use the tin foil to cover rear end, stop other people getting static shots of rear end.

C'mon, that's a practical joke. Guys from both teams know each other for years, that's like playing pranks on your neighbors.

Tit for tat:

Very amusing though. I mean, it's like these teams don't know that all sorts of people are taking extremely high resolution pictures of diffusers and other parts while the cars are out on track. If they saw a forum thread like this they might have a cardiac arrest.

Are yous aying something like the old BAR (I can't remember what year that was) which "hid" fuel?

That was 2005. First of all there's no point in 'hiding' fuel in 2010. BAR007 could be refuelled at the last pit, so it would gain advantage from running the race a bit underweight at some point and still be over 605kg after the finish.
Secondly putting the fuel tank (even a small one) that high is madness.

That BAR fuel tank mod was a fantastic idea. Shame it was banned, very clever engineering!

Not total madness, I was thinking the car will be heavy, really heavy at begining of race, so they will not be pushing hardest as you likely to fly of track. as the tank empties it will slosh around causing weight transfer. I was thinking the smaller one would top up keeping the balance. But ok it was just an idea and i see the problems now #-o
