look how close the ferrari and mclaren battle, did they have better areo back them to trvel that close? also i would love to see tracks with long downhills as it would promote more overtaking as people get the breaking wrong, i mean im so excited to watch barcelona this year i bet their is no overtaking they need to remove that track

They had some pretty big diffusers, really low front, rear wings had more than 2 elements (not sure how many exactly, but Ferrari had 10 elements in 2000, and im guessing they were the same regs.)

Not to mention gobs of more power to mask small mistakes, or take advantage of them.

I don't think the 1998 V10s were more powerful than the current V8s. I remember having a chart in a motoring magazine in 2001 and even then few engines reached 800bhp.

It was just after re-start. Tyres and brakes not at optimal temperature, etc. Drivers mistakes, not the aero.

I think to some extent the gearbox now being 7-speed is helping with the torque a bit though. Didn't the V10s produce 900-1000bhp though? I could be wrong

The Mercedes and Ferrari engines could reach up to 820 HP in 1998 ( qualifying spec)
