F1 Employees

Post

Hey,

How much do teams spend on staff? Is there a wage bracket for pit crew/management/race engineer? I am researching the sustainability issues with F1 and linking them into a systems framework to come with an appraisal for possible improvement.

Any help would be great

It's an almost impossible to answer question really. The big hitting teams will pay vastly more than the minnows. Minardi, for example, would run the entire team for the entire season for less than Ferrari was paying just its drivers.

There is a year book on financials of F1 which is quite exhaustive with reagard to published figures by Christian Sylt called Formula Money. It is a bit pricey but perhaps you can find a sponsor.

Otherwise write a letter to a team's HR department and explain your project. Perhaps they will support you.

Chris sylt is akin to Mike Lawrence with figures.

Dont get me wrong, Some of his stuff is spot on. But, Ferrari nor Mclaren have ever officially disclosed anual spends. So where does he pull it from?

A lot of stuff comes from company house in the UK since the law of the land requires certain publication. Sylt also maintains close relationship with Bernie and seems to have a regular jour fixe with the old man where they go over figures. Although Sylt is naive enough to associate with Pitpass he is quite experienced and does not shy away from investing shoe leather to get his figures. His figures are usually pretty accurate. Sometimes it is the interpretation and the way he puts them into context for Pitpass which makes him look foolish. At the moment I do not know a better source.

£175 is a little on the steep side but thats exactly the kind of thing im after, even if the figures arent 100% acurate its still better than nothing.

Many thanks

Sylt has so many prejudices and has made so many wild misinterpretations of what little info he ever actually gets that it renders every word he writes absolutely unreliable. He is in my opinion, and I make no exaggeration here, the worst journalist in the universe.

And no, your idolatry towards him does not surprise me in the least.

Lol, if you can name a better source please go ahead. The problem is you will probably not be able. And as I have said if you take the stuff he gets from original sources and not the interpretation it is better than nothing.

It has been suggested there was a possibility in 2012 of limiting the car based staff to 230 with a budget of 20m for wages. Currently a study being done on 3 teams McLaren, Force India and Renault to see what their costs are and how they compare. Once complete I presume it will be assembled into recommendations to help impliment the above?

What does this suggest about the current budget? Does it mean on average a team spends around 20m per year? And do you have a source for it cause that would be very useful
