What was the reason for this accident?

A F1 yearbook from 1993 blaims the active suspension on Berger's Ferrari F93A of failing to go to normal height after the pitstop, causing the car to bottom out on pit exit.

That looks like a Williams in red 1998 Winfield livery.

Image

Chassis: Williams FW20
Motor: Mecachrome GC 37-01
Testfahrer: Juan Pablo Montoya (COL); Max Wilson (BRA)
1 Jacques Villeneuve (CAN)
2 Heinz Harald Frentzen (GER)

So it should be either Villeneuve or Frentzen. Could be Argentine GP where Villeneuve collided with Coulthard or Frentzen in Magny Cours with steering wheel failure.

Ok, you found the video. I agree that it was this accident. But from the still photo of the video it could have easily been a Williams.

I remember this accident very well, from when I was watching it on TV like I've been doing to almost every F1 race since I was about 7-years old...

And sorry, if you bothered to take a look at a side photo of that Williams (the rear wing is unmistakable), you wouldn't have been wrong. Furthermore, I had already answered the question before and said which car was it and year...

Did you realize that the question wasn't about identifying the car?

I don't agree that the side foto of the cars in question are so different at the blurred quality. Sure you posted the solution before but would you expect everybody to believe that you were right on this? Not everybody has a fotographic memory to identify the accident in such a blurred foto. With the video it became totally obvious, but we did not have the benefit of the video before. I as fooled by the livery change Ferrari made from 1993 to 1995. The 1995 was practically red only.

Matt21, I'm just waiting for you to check my answer, to see if that's the one you were thinking about. Maybe our sources differ...

You are correct. I remember that accident really well.
And WB you are clearly not a Ferrari fan :D
Identifying F93 from FW20 is easy because of black front and rear wing endplates.

Hoping for WB to admit to be in the wrong is just that...a hope, but one of these days I'm sure it will happen.
But a Williams, my guess was a Scuderia Italia?

Well, it's obviously a Ferrari F93, but I think many of us was taken by that hideous white decoration?

New question:

Ferrari has in its DNA the tradition of being stubbornly resistant to most technical innovations, ever since Enzo said that the Ferrari F1's wouldn't have rear engines "because the horses pull the wagon, they don't push it" (if he was an engineer he would have realized he was defending FWD, but that's another issue), besides all other kinds of nonsense he was known for defending, like the small importance of brakes in a performance car or the tradition of using outdated suspension types.

So, it's no surprise that, even if the first F1 monocoque chassis appeared on the 60's, for many years the Ferraris used a mixed chassis construction, combining a tubular framework with aluminium plates for better rigidity. Which was the only proper aluminium honeycomb monocoque produced by the Scuderia for use in F1 (model, year, designer)?
