Well done matt21, it was indeed Desiree Wilson but her nick name was "African Queen" as witnessed by the crown livery on her helmet. The race was actually a proper F1 race at it's time of classification. It was later de-listed due to political reasons.

My source is saying, that South Africa could have hosted a official GP in April. In February they can hold a Formula Libre race, and that´s what they have done.

Reading the Forix source it kind of changes the view told by F1rejects. So one can probably say that it was known at the time of the race that it would not count towards a championship.

That would be Gerhard Berger on the Bennetton B186 of 1986.

Rory worked with the front wing endplates so we had a kind of ground effect at some tracks. The car was like a bomb at circuits like Spa, Austria and Monza. And the power was unbelievable - even if the turbo delay was terrible. You'd open the throttle at the entry to the corner only to get the power at the exit. And if you missed it by five or 10 metres, there was nothing you could do - you just spun it. The lag was about one or two seconds.
At Zeltweg, down the long straight to the Bosch Kurve, the car was throwing out 1400 bhp and just kept on pushing - you felt like you were sitting on a rocket.

I love the wide tracks and the fat rear tyres of those cars. Please let them come back.

That one is up there with Alonso and his chickens or the late Gunnar Nilsson talking to the Swedish press about having his Lotus salary paid radioactively.

And that in turn reminds me of a time when Nigel Mansell told a bunch of journalists that he was subjected to (something like) 22g at Silverstone. This brought forth the predictable amount of eye rolling, giggling, coughs and skeptical looks.

Nige plunged on... "Well, there's 4g at Copse, 3.5g at Maggotts, 4g at Becketts, 2.5g at Chapel..." etc etc.

I agree with that answer. China with 200,000 seats probably has the biggest capacity of the current tracks.

It is a shame that China is most likely the least populated of the large venues...a real shame.
