Can we maybe remember the rules of this thread? Seeing as I was reminded of this "2 day rule", it is VERY impolite that others seem to have an inability to be patient and wait for answers to be confirmed as correct or not. Especially when one of the culprits is the one who advised me of this 2 day thing. Maybe if you would take the time to check the time of my post you would see that my 2 days is not up!

Bonus question to which I don't know the answer:
Why is that rear wheel black? (I can only guess)

It is Jim Clark on his way to winning the 1962 British Grand Prix at Aintree in the Lotus 25. That's off the top of the head. The black wheel is a mystery. I'll have to haul out my copies of Motor Sport to answer that one.

EDIT. Motor Sport August 1962 may have been of use as it turns out. There is no mention of the unpainted wheel in the British Grand Prix report but the magazine does carry a report of the Solitude Grand Prix, held only six days earlier, on Sunday July 15. During the race, Clark spun at the hairpin after a short sharp shower of rain and clouted the right rear of the car on the bank. DSJ reported that the accident buckled "the right hand rear radius arms".

I'm only speculating but one can imagine that that prang also damaged the Lotus Wobbly Web Wheel. Lotus had been particularly busy over those two weeks, the second Lotus 25 (R2) having debuted in Clark's hands at the Grand Prix de l'ACF on Sunday July 8, then racing the same chassis in Germany on Sunday July 15 and... phew... nipping back across the channel to race at Aintree on Saturday July 21, again in R2.

In all that frantic schedule it's easy to imagine that they didn't get round to painting another rear wheel yellow, merely having time to grab it from the store at Cheshunt before setting off for Liverpool.

Just my theory.

I will also attempt to make the question one requiring a reasonable knowledge of Formula One, which has an unambiguous answer and which is not able to be answered by the lazy expedient of Googling or Wikipedia-ing.

A bit of detective work this time.

The picture includes the team owner, the team manager and one of the drivers of a major racing team of its day. One of the team's other drivers is being signalled. It should be a relatively straightforward task to deduce who that driver is.

The name of that driver will cause the baton to be passed to you.

Once you've done that, you may care to inform us of the identity of the owner, the manager and the driver in the picture... just to display your knowledge!

This should be Mike Hawthorn at Spa in the 50ties.

It is Spa. It is the 50's. It is not Mike Hawthorn. Think about the normal protocol teams followed for years regarding the information they put on pit boards. They did not include the name of the driver to whom they were signalling!

It could be 1958 with Stirling Moss retiring on lap 1 and therefore in the pits at Vanvall. Tony Brooks would be the driver who was signaled about Hawthorn's position. He won the GP for Vanwall and the team owner was Tony Vandervell.

Absolutely splendid old boy! That is indeed Tony Vandervell in his trademark Panama hat! Of course, Stirl it is in the middle of the picture in virginal white and - this is admittedly a tad obscure - the team manger was David Yorke, he who is risking life and limb standing on the track wearing a rather nice Harris Tweed jacket.

The pit board is telling Brooks that he is 33 seconds ahead of Hawthorn and there are six laps to go.
