A clapped out engine giving up at the end of FP2 isn't much of an issue, isn't it? It should not even be mentioned in comparison with Vettel's problems.

throttle issues was a bit though. It doesn't matter in the sense that it didn't happen when results mattered (quali/race) but it happened nonetheless.

Well, it appears Mark gets the wobbles at more convenient times then! They should better get on it or they will have McLaren breathing down their necks forever.

Wouldn't Geoff Willis's QC measures have stuck in place even after he left though? There would be no reason to just delete them from the regime

the question is ,was there really a proper Q system installed or was it Willis`magic touch a la Paul Morgan ...walking by and stating:that thing won´t last longer than 1 hour..

If there is a Qs ystem installed ,someone,in fact everyone still has to stick to the rules...can be annoying for the geniuses.and those who only think they know it all...

In fact very few companies do really have a good integration for FMEAs in their processes and tend to do this as aftermath and pure fullfilling of duties .
Especially very experienced guys could ask ,hey why we need to ask all those questions it all is obvious and good practise to do as we do it ..but some day your good practise gets disturbed by something new entering the equation (shorter ,tyre change only pit stops ,much higher starting weight with a lot more strain on all components...the chain is endless...)

I believe the answer is very simple. Newey never cared for the niggling details that have to be sorted to make a car reliable. He only cares about what makes the car fast. Any team owner who employs Newey needs to give him a strong operational man at his side who hammers the designers, suppliers, the assembly and the race team on quality. The moment you relax on that the rot creeps back in.

Agree completely, but no reasonably professional outfit would be WITHOUT the "operational man," whatever his formal title might be. And let's remember, Newey's cars never had the reputation for being as strong as a truck, but neither is he thought of as another Chapman, whose cars had the unnerving habit of falling to bits. (Jim Clark on Lotus reliability: "The bolts always screw themselves OUT. Why don't they ever screw IN?")

I do not buy this.
why should the car work seamless for one event and fail on the next ,why should Neweys design philosophy be the reason for a crack in the car (!) going unnoticed ..
If I´m going for the very outer rim of the envelope which is true for Newey as well as it is true for Vettel,it is not more than logical that i have to work extra hours to check or even change more frequently.
As we know the RB5 was also known for at least one failure last year ...so where is the countermeasure to detect creeping in failures in this area? Vettel was driving a damaged car for 2 races they say.....hm ...so Vettel seems not to be the most sensitive guy in the car as well ...as ..if the thing with the crack propagating from one lower wishbone mount is true ,surely the car would behave asymetrically under loads....and might even not hold its setup...?so strange readings in camber and
caster values and of course non reponsiveness or delta values in weight transfer when adjusting and checking cornerweights would make you scratch your head ,especially when the other car is not doing such things..

Just a little gem that Strad shared in another thread.

Let ya in on a little secret...it was really them running the engines too lean which is also what burned up your boy Vettles spark plug..that one wasn't his fault.
So we have an explanation for one of the technical faults on Vettel's car. Would that suggest they were running it leaner than Webber's?

Yea cool it Chaparel.
The lean burning was very probably a wind up but that is no reason to insult other posters.

Give me a break Auto - I know it was a wind up for sure and I wasnt insulting Gugs (Whiteblue) just posting a relevant fact unlike the his posts and response................I really dont care for his manipulation of a forum - he's done it before and will continue - and thats what it is ...... Ive explained that to Tomba, Ciro & MxTiffosi - in all honesty Ive never seen a forum who allows that rubbish from WB to exist - they banned this tosser from GP.com forum because he was doing the same thing as here end of story
