I do not see what on that car McLaren would want? Why would McLaren want to take tips from the BGP001? Last years McLaren ended the season faster than the Brawn, and this years McLaren ended up quicker also.

I SUSPECT that it was more of a Mercedes Decision not to let that car go! Maybe Haug promised the cars to his Grandkids or something! Either way for Jenson to threaten them with high court leads me to believe they wasnt letting that car go without a fight.

Lets not forget, Ferrari give Schumcher the last Ferrari he raced for them!!! Whos to say Haug and co havent sniffed around that! Not that they would want to as its almost 4 years old now

It would help if the first post in a thread included a link to the story. Here's one for those who haven't read about it ...

http://www.planet-f1.com/news/3213/6218 ... Suing-Merc

Cheeky of Brawn to say they didn't have a car available. There'll be one for Ross, one for the team, one for Merc, one for Button. That'll still leave a couple spare?

I wonder what spec Button got? If he he had a choice I wonder which one he'd go for? The final one? Or perhaps the one from his favourite race, possibly Monaco?

Also, the contract talks about the chassis, I wonder how much he gets for that? Does that exclude wheel, suspension, engine etc?

A contract is a legally binding document - Regardless if its finished or not its is still legal at the time it was in date.
If the contract says to give him the car then there shouldn't be a question.

Put it this way - At work my contract states I have - for example - 231 hours holiday in a year, If they were to turn around and say you can only have 150 hours I'm obviously going to challenge it - Likewise would anyone else.
Not on the same scale as a F1 car but you gotta admit - if its in the contract they should honour it.

apart from the DD the brawn was a mediocre car
perhaps mercedes didn't want the other teams to know what not to do ?
to the optimist a glass is half full ; to the pessimist a glass is half empty ; to the F1 engineer the glass is twice as big as it needs to be

They don't want people to see all the bits with a Honda Civic part number on them. ;)

Be interesting if Merc just give him the chassis instead of the full car. Would be even funnier if they give him one of Rubens car! I think personally the Monaco car would be his prefered option.

Either way it would be good to see exactly why Brawn refused to give him one. We only made 6 chassis is not an excuse in my opinion.

Out of interest, what do Macca do with all the old chassis? Must have one big garage!!!

BGP001-02, Jensons car is the car that Mercedes used at their Brand Launch a week before the W01 broke cover.

Would require a repaint, the BGP001-03 that Rubens car that finished the season is now the Mercedes display car.

Those are the only 2 working Brawn BGP001/Honda RA109 chassis avalable out there.

I think theres been an compromise, that he will recive his 02 chassis next year, with the Mercedes engine that won the 3 consecutive races ending at Monaco. That way there will not be any technology transfer and such.

And what do McLaren do with their old chassis;
* They keep 3, 2 fully working and one for display at MTC in Woking, most probably key chassis, like the one Hamilton won his WDC in 2008 and one other with a the smallest ammount of milage on it.
* For the Mercedes era, send ont to the Mercedes Museum in Munich.
* If theres any remaining they will probably sell them after a few years to private collectors in the far east or give to motorsports museums as a gift.

Its not like what Ferarri do and keep all their chassis, and let Corsi Clenti look after, who have a team that look after an ever increasing F1 collection.

Most teams will have a good ammount of previous chassis to choose from for display or testing purposes. Take 2006 and 2007, BMW Sauber and Toyota produced arround 10 tubs for each of those seasons. Makes you wonder whats hanging arround a F1 factory or facility.

No one was taken to court. He just threatened court action.

I can see why Brawn wouldn't want to give him the chassis seening as he was jumping ship to a competitor. Storm in a teacup is all it is.

So basically, Brawn were potless and only had two fully working cars for 2009? The rest were just shells? Either way Jenson should make the most of it, McLaren wont let him keep ---! Not even his original race trophys, but then again if he sets fire to his house and burns down his F1 collection then at least McLaren can knock up some replicas again, just like Mika did a few years ago *cough* insurance job *cough* :)

why?
he has enough money.

does it escape you that he might actually want his car for a reminder of the good and bad times with the team, and the end result?

If I won a WDC I would love to keep the car. I think Brawn must have agreed to letting him have it in his contract because they thought they didnt stand a chance of winning the WDC. If I was Button I would have asked for a 100Mill£ bonus too, I bet they would have agreed to it!!

Maybe the reason the car was that quick at the start of 2009 is because it had hardly any sponsor stickers :) The more sponsors they got the slower they become!

Well, Jenson doesn't strike me as a sort of guy who would have emotional attachment to, what is basically some plastic and metal on wheels, he might keep it for a year or two and sell it later on a charity auction.
