This truly is pathetic - Im with the drivers on this.
It will make the racing false. Ok so overtaking at some circuits hasn't been particularly overwhelming but they were at circuits where its more difficult to overtake. Why don't they look at modifying the tracks to maximise overtaking and not make it as simple as press button to teleport you in front of the car your following.
Its bollocks.
I dont follow F1 so that drivers can overtake easy - I enjoy watching drivers fight with their abilities.
As a kart racer I praise over kart drivers for their raw skill not because of their equipment because its more or less the same!
Come on Todt - take a look at the very low motorsports and take some notes.

Sorry - Rant over.

Auto, OK, so you've decided to ignore item 3 (high cornering speeds)? The problem is that a lot of people like F1 exactly for the reason that the cars can corner at speeds much higher than other formulae.. many people consider it a part of F1's DNA.... (I'm not saying I agree, I'm just looking at it from the FIA/FOTA's point of view).

You'd also have to say that your solution doesn't neessary solve issue 2 (close racing) either... although hopefully a cut in downforce would achieve this (at the expense of cornering speeds).

Less aero dependance and more mechanical grip is what is needed. Cross ply tyres anyone?

Don't get me wrong.. I've said many times before that MY preference would be for F1 cars with high levels of tehnology, low downforce and high efficieny... but I don't rule the world (!) and I realise that a lot of people like the high cornering speeds.... I'm just trying to provide a balanced view

really, instead of tightening those rules they should loosen the rules a bit, give teams freedom to develop things wich are useful for road cars too. The freedom for that isnt there now.

Isnt it ironic that with the more rules coming it became less exiting, since the 80ties the F1 became more dull and dull every year, with that there were added more rules year by year, so that is just the cause for all of this.

And the most worst part of those rules is that they dont even understand their own written rules, else they didnt have to rewrite parts everytime something genius happens(like LH's car not having enough fuel for the finish).
It is like the rulemakers think; 'Eh lets put these words together, it looks funny and no one understands it, so we can easily punish others for it, and when they did it we have something to do as it has to be rewritten.' the rules are simply stupid.
Just put up templates with dimensions and certain safety rules and let the teams themselves choose how to go there within the rules, it will allow really nice cars, and also differing cars

The car makers do not want technology to advance. They are well aware that this would force them to speed up and invest heavily in alternates like better hybrids and EVs. They would much sooner things stay as they are and allow them to keep selling the ancient technology they have available today.
F1 conveniently allows them to smother the issue with aero, which few people out there know anything about. It also stops anyone taking notice of proper vehicle performance and efficiency technologies.
Even this site is buried in model aeroplane technology.
Keeping this state of affairs will soon kill F1 for good if the FIA does not get some guts soon.

Maybe they should allow the teams to test with two models in the wind-tunnel, one following the other. Might give them info on how to make the cars more stable in the turbulent air. Of course this would mean more money spent, and everyone is very cost conscious these days.

Also I think they should make efforts to make the cars look more futuristic, that might attract the more casual fans.

Well, what they did with the Panoz champ car was making a acar that created alot of its downforce from the underbody(over 50%), maybe they should do the same with the F1.

I had a few sketches, Venturi channel underbody, with a flat center section, an ultra low rear wing wich is used as underbody extractor, and by simple stays it can move when the car goes backwards to stop the car flipping when it spins suddenly by creating a huge wall of the rear wing aerofoil. The channels height would be about in between where now the beam wing is and the diffuser ends, with the wing being in between this height and the height of the beam wing. the end plates cannot exeed beyond the engines cover height. it will modernise a bit and aero would be more efficient
