Point taken.
Anyway, I personally don't think Webber is that much worse a driver than the rest of the people on that list. Is he overrated, yes. But, so is just about everyone else from this era.
Taking into account that you're extremely close to the car in front and that you'll have to brake earlier to avoid an incident, unless you have room to get past, is such a basic part of racing it isn't even funny. Your attention then turns to getting through the corner so you give yourself a better chance into the next one. You learn that in karting. It's something that Webber has never seemed to have acquired.raymondu999 wrote:Personally I don't think that was Webber under pressure and just barging through. I think he kind of forgot to take into account that the new teams have less downforce and less braking, and how Heikki would have to start braking a lot earlier.
Well Kamui Kobayashi apparently thought he could run in P3 for most of the race and it payed big time for him. I'm all for racing. The slower guys have every right to defend their position if they can. That way they earn their team TV exposure and get some budget to make the car better. Webber (as well as Alonso in Monaco) seemed to forget that.BreezyRacer wrote:Did Heiki really feel his oats today thinking he could run with RB?
WhiteBlue I have to suggest the fundamental differance between Koby and Kovi is that Koby kept Jens behind as he was doing a good job and banging out the lap times, heck he was running in the 39's. Where as Kovi was what 4 seconds off the pace. Its folly to try and compare.WhiteBlue wrote:Well Kamui Kobayashi apparently thought he could run in P3 for most of the race and it payed big time for him. I'm all for racing. Webber screwed up. It is not the end of his championship fight and he should be glad the safety worked perfectly. With another broken leg from such a huge shunt it would have been game over for this year.
It sure was a big accident. I do not agree that a car being 4 s off the pace on a 100 s lap is dangerous by itself. It is just the drivers that have got used to the fact that all the poor teams have gone bust so they do not have to be careful any more.SoliRossi wrote:.. Kovi was what 4 seconds off the pace. ..
I beleive it was a racing incident, but above all what it shouts to me is the new teams need to get their act together as it was like watching 2 different formulas out there. Webber was dialed in out there to his breaking points and so on, then he rolls up to the back of a guy whos breaking distance is close to double that of what his is! The two cars should be in different races really.

This is basically the most apt explanation of what happened.WhiteBlue wrote:Webber hit Kovi on a dry track due to a misjudgment of the slower cars braking distance.
obviously it was Webber in anticipation the lotus would move away ...as it is a lotus and those move away as they are usually lapped..when a RB appears in their mirrors...he simply got it wrong big time.Rob W wrote:This is basically the most apt explanation of what happened.WhiteBlue wrote:Webber hit Kovi on a dry track due to a misjudgment of the slower cars braking distance.
Kovi didn't weave in the braking area (go watch the video if anyone has forgotten) he was veering left into the braking zone as any car would do trying to get around that corner. Webber was very, very close to him and simply got caught out. It almost looks - judging by the way Webber's car weaves right before he hits - that he lacked a bit of braking as well from being so close.
The talk of Kovi should've known he was in a slower car and pulled aside line of thinking is just crap imo. Hundreds or races have been won by drivers in cars which weren't the fastest.
