Insulating hoods for electrics?

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Insulating hoods for electrics?

Post

Was wondering if anyone knew a source of the insulating rubber hoods that they seem to use a lot of on F1 cars?

It would seem to be moulded - it's not heat-shrink tubing. Can't find a source for them anywhere. Maybe the teams make them?

Why you dont use heat shrink tube?
It could be even just some tape.

Heat shrink tubing is not good for large changes in diameter.
When is the last time you saw insulating tape on an F1 car?

These are not the ones used on race cars however. Raychem has a Special type of tubing for that, used on most harnesses and is good to 250C. And of course way more expensive than the "street" versions. Seems street cars don't catch on fire as often :D
