At the 2010 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix Kamui Kobayashi only managed to qualify 18th on the grid. But when the lights went out Kobayashi got a good start, avoided many incidents in front of him and found himself on the tail of Nico Hulkenburg's Williams-Cosworth FW32 in 10th. After getting a good slip-stream from the Williams down the straight, Kobayashi went to the outside of the German driver and took the racing line but unfortunately both of them got their braking judgement wrong and overcooked the chicane, Hulkenburg cut the chicane but Kobayashi tried to make the chicane and went right over kerb and launched his car half a metre in the air and hit the 'Wall of Champions' damaging the C29's front right suspension, breaking off the front wing and retiring.
But Kobayashi in his (BMW) Sauber-Ferrari C29 showed how much talent he has in the 2010 Formula 1 European Grand Prix finishing in 7th.
Like in Canada Kobayashi only managed to qualify 18th and when the lights went out Kobayashi didn't make any places and at the 2nd corner Heikki Kovalainen in his Lotus-Cosworth T127 went round Kobayashi on the outside and his team-mate Jarno Trulli tried on the inside of Kobayashi but Kobayashi tripped up on him and damaged the Italian's front wing. After the safety car went in because of the massive accident, when Mark Webber launched his Red Bull-Renault RB6 over Heikki Kovalainen's Lotus-Cosworth T127, Kobayashi was promoted to 3rd place along with a monumental task of keeping the 4th placed reigning world champion Jenson Button in the McLaren-Mercedes MP4-25 behind him. On lap 37 Kobayashi came across 2 lapped cars of Bruno Senna in the HRT-Cosworth F110 and Timo Glock in his Virgin-Cosworth VR01. As Kobayashi and Button closed up to them Senna and Glock were too busy having their own battle, then the two of them heavily block Kobayashi and Button when Glock goes round the outside of Senna but snaps one of the Brazilians front wing supports and as a result gets a puncture and they both pit. Kobayashi succeeded in keeping Button behind him for most the race until he had to make mandatory tyre change on lap 53 and was dropped to 9th place behind 7th placed Sebastien Buemi in his Scuderia Toro Rosso-Ferrari STR05 and 8th placed and 2 time world champion Fernando Alonso in his Ferrari F10. On a combination of fresh super soft compound tyres and a light fuel load gave the Japanese driver lightning speed and on the penultimate lap he managed to put one on the inside of Spanish driver in front of his home crowd and moved up to 8th place then coming up to the last corner on the last lap he dived up the inside of the Swiss driver and took 7th with only metres before the finishing line.
I understand and agree with many spectators and commentators that say Kobayashi only managed to keep Button behind him because of the lack of ease to overtake at the Valencia circuit. But those who are wondering why Button couldn't easily catch Kobayashi on the straight was because as well as McLaren, Sauber also installed the F-Duct on their car. Also Sauber was the only team apart from McLaren to connect the end of the shark fin onto the rear wing before the launch of their
