What partnerships would you like to see?

Post

Hey all. Just a point of interested curiosity here

What partnerships would you like to see, and why?

For me personally, I'd like to see Vettel paired up with Rob Smedley, driving for Ferrari, with Alonso or Hamilton as his teammate, who can actually help in terms of his wheel-to-wheel racecraft. I don't think we've seen Vettel do too much of overtaking when he hasn't got a massive car advantage. The MP4-24 was a dog and yet in Melbourne Lewis hamilton fought his way up to 3rd, but Vettel can't, seemingly. At least in the dry. He can overtake, but not when he has little or no car advantage.

What are your pairings you want to see?

I'd like to see Felipe and Rob at Red Bull. And as long as Alonso is at Ferrari, he needs a slow number 2 to save the embarrassment of the call from Santander to put him into first place. Ferrari can have Webber, who is a 'good' number 2.

I think Smedley is one cool character and key to Felipes success, more so than Michael Schumacher..I really enjoy to see him parnering Massa back to the front again.
It would make for a perfect weekend having them lead Alonso in Hungary ...till the flag.

I would love to hear Alonsos comments when Smedley would do his usual stirring up and Fernando demanding him to shut up...

Assuming the team magically improves overnight, Hamilton and Kobayashi in Renault-powered Lotus. There would be something special with having Hamilton in a Lotus, and the two drivers would probably get the best out of each other.

I'd actually love to see Webber or Vettel partner an established great such as Hamilton or Alonso (yes, they might not be great people in terms of personality, but you have to admit these are great drivers, though Webber and Vettel might be less overtake-capable than the other two) just to see how they stack against one another.

The two haven't really had any "great" teammates to prove against. It could be that the Red Bull is just so bloody fast that it doesn't matter who the driver is.

Kubica paired with Raikkonen at Renault (which is an actual possibility for next year or so I've heard) would be an unstopable combo with some equipment upgrades.
If Schumi leaves after this year (which i dont think he will) then Raikkonen could join Rosberg at MGP for another awesome combo.

I would like to see Massa paired with Schumacher again. They were a very good pairing that complimented each other, much like Alesi nad Berger (another pairing that I would like to see return). On the race engineering side Ross Brawn and Rob Smedley.

so Rosberg/Clear moves on to Villeneuve /Durango and Smedley/massa come to Mercedes...I´d love it....

what about clear partnering Schumacher?
I feel Shovlin is just not the great strategist..they try funny things that do not work and then they have these uninspired decisions like last weekend ...sending Schumacher nowhere ...why follow the lead of those who are in front? you have nothing to gain..they had planned for a long stint with the options...and had no reason to get rid of them ... I had it in my memeory that Brawn was a true mastermind...that is not happening in 2010 ...so has he lost that or isn´t he involved? I´m sure MS is not amused.

I wonder if Kubi has some sort of veto power included in his Renault contract, much like Prost could veto his teammates at Williams and McLaren. I've read somewhere that his contract has an "undisputed no. 1 driver" clause. If that were true, I don't think Kubi would want a high profile teammate such as Raikkonen, nor would Raikkonen want a number 2 job.

who is Kubica to demand something like that.
From my point of view a top driver has the confidence to beat anyone at any time with the same material.

I would like to see Hamilton at Williams, bringing them back to their winning ways.
That would be after he goes to ferrari first, maybe at the age of 32 he go to williams or even lotus.
Who he would team up with? Alonso is the strongest teammate he'll ever have, so it doesn't really matter who else comes along. Kubica or Heidfeld would be good.
For Sure!!

Schuie / Alonso or Schuie / Hamilton or Hamilton / Alonso. The key is that it is at an 'equal driver status' team.

Actually, Ferrari's idea of three car teams would be great for this. All three of them at the same team would be 'interesting'.

As would Hamilton / Vettel / Alonso actually.

Never happen though because I get the feeling that only Hamilton would be happy in a team with 'equal driver status' contracts. Button would probably likewise be up for it. These two seem to relish the challenge of a quick team mate. Alonso and Schuie seem to prefer preferential treatment because the title is all that matters - not the way it is won. I get the feeling also that Vettel is leaning that way too although it is still early days on that front.
