Briatore: Alonso can equal Shumacher

Post

Hahahahahaha

How many times have we heard this, only for it to fall flat.

It seems to be the line any team uses when they want headlines.

I'm not saying Alonso isn't damn good and he did the best job this year and therefore deserves the title. But please.

Alonso is better than schumacher, but he will never be able to duplicate that record, Schumacher had the perfect storm , of timing , team , and team personnel and along with weak competition. Today F1 is the most competitive it has ever been since the 80's...

You bring up a good point. Schumacher was the best during a period of time, there is no questioning that. But there is no chance that such a record could be accumulated with the level of competitiveness we are seeing in F1 today.

A wise man (can’t remember which one) once said, “Success is where luck and ability intersect”. This was surely the case for MS.

I can not agree.... Alonso is not better or equal than what Schumacher was.. He could not even handle Hamilton in his rookie season. Towards the end of the season Hamilton was noticebally faster.

From the current batch I think Hamilton can be the one that joins the greatest ever. I also would like to see Rosberg in a fast car to se how well he does...

Of course, you always need some luck. But what MS did was not just drive good for the best team. But he made sure he was in the best team. He build the team, and kept the level of professionality like no one else. He made sure the team delivered.

The only aspect of Schumacher Alonso can equal is his use of team orders, and even then it's doubtful if he can bring in the WDC.

+1

something most people here do not acknowledge .the guy was never coming into a team wich was at the front of the pack but more second or third league(before 2010 that is !).And he somehow convinced the people involved that he was delivering what they wanted most: the championship .and he did .7 times. admittedly at almost all cost.
side question : WHO of the drivers involved now or back then would say : oh,no I don´t drive if I GET No1 status?..
the thing is nobody was offered this ,for good reason .He got this on MERIT simple as that.

not wanting to be drawn into any pro or con Schumacher argument (I have great respect for his achievements), but I think Alonso could dublicate it, as could Hamilton and some others.
Will they? I don´t know - only time will tell.

But I think, just because we have a very competetive season right now, we don´t know what will
happen in 2 or 3 years time.

It´s entirely possible that one team/driver will dominate in a similar fashion again.
If we look back in history we will see era´s of total domination (e.g. McLaren/Honda, Lancia in the WRC, Porsche & Audi @ LeMans) but ulitimatively somebody will come along and break a winning streak or/and beat the records.

I´m sure Schumachers records will stand for a long time, but one day somebody will beat them.
Because this is what records are for, to provide a benchmark and aim for the next generation.
