It doesn't mean he would not have any influence.

In any case, given his previous involvement in this whole team orders shenanigan *cough cough* "Rubens... it's last lap... Do you understand this message?" *cough cough* "Felipe... let Alonso past for the championship"

I think that this incident will be a make or break point in Jean Todt's career, and how people view him.

Austria 2002 was understandfable (not right though) as there was a championship at stake. This year there is not for Ferrari and it is inexcusable.

How's that?
Kimi showed that miracles happen and that not only German may score in a red car.

As I said, in 2002 there was a championship at stake. This year Ferrari havn't got a hope. They are too far behind.

Yep. But Schu was clearly leading in championship.
And even finishing 2nd he gained on his rivals.

Alonso is 34 points behind with 8 GPs left with a much more rewarding points system. You are wrong.

No maths needed so [-X [-X [-X to you too.

Ferrarri got lucky in Germany. Vettel fluffed the start and the rest of the usual suspects fluffed qualifying. There is no way that Ferrari will consistantly beat McLaren and Red Bull for the rest of the season. Yes you too should think. [-X

Fair enough, I don't wanna join this never ending argument. Just a question:
Don't they have to believe they will actually do that? And if they do actually do that, isn't it then warranted?

(this is setting aside the rule that they blatantly overstepped, I'm not arguing against that at all)

Of course they can believe - just not lie to the fans, the FIA and basically everyone. This was nothing to do with the "team game" but everything to do with a certain Spanish bak who sponsors the German GP, Ferrari and was instrumental in bringing a Spanish driver into Ferrari.

If they were closer to the top of the points tables and/or had been putting in top performances at all races (and had just suffered bad luck) then there would be some justification but they havn't. The fact car just hasn't been good enough since Bahrain makes me believe that this result was just a one off.

In 2002 virtually all doubt of a Schumacher/Ferrari championship was removed. This year there is a huge amount of doubt making a move like this even more risky considering the backlash.

Out of interest, I wonder what the Whitmarsh plans private talk with Ferrari about team orders news item is all about?

My assumption is that propaganda-releases from the teams is 99% of what makes up the 'news' section of this site, that story included. So why is McLaren telling the world that Martin Whitmarsh is going to have a sit-down with Ferrari? What is the reason that McLaren have released it? What value does it serve to the McLaren company?

Can anyone shed any light on it?

Okay, I understand your viewpoint, personally I don't agree just yet. I think they've had the pace the last few races. But I also think that McLaren and Red Bull will hit back. We'll see in a couple of races if you are right!

Edit: Oh and regarding that lying, if they are gonna go for team orders they don't really have any other choice but lying publicly since they are breaking the rules, really. So they don't have much of an option on that, suck for the fans that don't realize it though.

Martin Whitmarsh is this years head of FOTA (the teams association) so he has to appear like he's doing something from the team's side to remedy the unrest from the fans and press following Sundays debacle.

Maybe Whitmarsh is getting tips on race manipulation?

I think it may well be about looking to abolish the team orders ban or at least adjusting the rules. Either that or McLaren want to be seen as doing something positive in the eyes of their sponsors so Whitmarsh is using his position as the head of FOTA to be seen to be having words.

I'll start praying or I'll have to pedal backwards!

As for the lying, you're not wrong. It's all the stuff about it being the "team game" and trying to say it was Massa's decision. Just rerally hacked me off. We all heard the radio tranmissions.
