That's Hans Hermann (not) in his BRM at AVUS.

James: "Well, that should put them out then."

Eight minutes, Wiki-free coop, JPB in the BRM was a giveaway when I'm a son of the 70s.

That very year, 1972, one of the many BRM drivers more or less committed a political suicide in F1 with the last two races.

Who was that and what did he do?

Naaah...Bill Brack was just S-L-O, lasted only one race, Canada, at that.

I think I know the reason. The teams sponsor for 1973 was going to give them enough cash so the team could run 6 cars with the intention of giving drives to younger drivers and rookies. However, the sponsor reneged on this and funded only 3 cars at the last minute.

As for the dirver, by the process of elimination of who got a drive in 1973, I'm going for Howden Ganley.

Wrong in both respects, Andrew. This was about one of the regular BRM-drivers making a terrible error of judgement for the last two races in 1972, effectively ending his F1 career.

Of course the sideburn Swede messed up when accepting to finish the 1972 season with John Player instead of Marlboro, replacing a hoplessly fat and slow Aussie who in turn had replaced Wisell himself at the beginning of the season.

Little did he know that Lotus was a one car team and that another Swede was already lined up for the seat for 1973!

Anyway, those last two races of 1972 pissed off Marlboro to the xtent that he couldn't even get that drive for Frank Williams' Iso-Marlboro team, why he was left without a seat for the coming seasons, bar in the occational private March.

Your go Gary!
