Ferrari, has already used 6 of their 8 engines, now i know you can re'use your old engines in other races. But i was just wondering what you guys think. Will Ferrari use to much Engines this season and get at some point in the season a grid penalty? Or will they sit it out, and use the older engines which won't brake down.
What does IDK means?? (someone) i dont know (other dude) OMG no one knows
They actually took out the 7th engine for Saturday. So they have 2 engines for the last 7 races (including Spa). While just about all other drivers used a new sixth engine for Spa (ie 3 engines for the same 7 races)
Vettel (and Webber) blew up most of their engines in practice. Those were old engines usually well up in the mileage. So that doesn't matter that much. In fact Webber claimed they were running their engines way past the expected mileage because they didn't lose performance.
The Ferrari engines broke down on their first or second race. That hurts a lot more.
The performance loss is important too. The STR drivers were told by Ferrari do rack up high mileage on the friday practice. They complained the engines lost so much performance that their friday practices were almost entirely useless. The new engines were so much faster that any setup work done on the old (high mileage) engines was incomparable.
Still, indeed we have no idea how much mileage Ferrari lost with their engine blow ups.
Another problem is that you cannot change an engine on saturday without a penalty. The penalty being that you can only use that engine on friday afterwards. So their engines will have to do the race and qualifying. That's pretty harsh.
