Possibly, he was "desperate" to make up positions and he was clearly frustrated after qualifying probably more so that Jenson was higher than him.

I think his move in Monza was simply a mistake, I would of tried exactly the same thing, he wouldn't know Massa would move over quite late on through the corner, and it was only a matter of centimetres. I still feel if he had waited though, he would have won, because he was so much faster down the straights that all three of the guys infront of him, it would of been easy pickings if he got anywhere near them.

Be fair. It was amazing to see how easily that steering arm tore. It looked like it just touched Massa's back wheel. It could have happened to anyone.

I feel very amused how much pleasure mature man take of the falling from grace (in their view) of other man ....
it must be something to do with the words:I told you so...

the broken steering arm/toelink ...is of course the reult of having too much of a compression force on the part....very unfortunate but monza is what it is unforgiving
and drama...mcLaren need to really push now if they want to keep that championship alive
RedBull will help as much as they can to help Mclaren keep in the hunt...that is my feeling...

the fact that Hamilton is only at ease with Button so long as Jenson is not a direct threat to him is a little worrying and hopefully he will learn a lot from this experience .
In fact Button is in the same situation speedwise than schumacher is with Rosberg both
are not quite as sharp with the car they have as their respective teammates,with the difference that Button has indeed matched Hamilton in hauling in points and winning but then Rosberg did not win .
what is really setting the two pairs apart is Button really outstanding with his not commting any mistakes the whole season now..He was just brilliant in Monza totally under control not driving the quickest car ...i´m looking forward to see how Lewis does cope with the situation as it unfolds now.

I agree that Buttons racing season has been pretty sound apart from some bad luck at Monaco and Spa, but, in contrast, his qualifying has been woeful at times this season. He's really cost himself some points with some poor grid slots and Hamilton has, for the most part, qualified much better.

Maybe. But I think this past weekend was just a blip. Normal service will resume in Singapore.

Got to admit I was kinda relieved he pranged it ... I was absolutely bursting for a Barry White at the start of the race, so once he crashed, I knew absolutely nothing was gonna happen with the first three till the pitstop, so could go relieve myself.

I always feel a bit sorry for the guys at the factory that spent the last month designing, building and painting Monza spec bodywork, only to see it in the bushes at turn 4.
Since he never broke sweat, I reckon Lewis should donate his week's salary to the mechanics welfare fund, especially after the HRT lollipop fiasco.

The intersting thing, the last time he made such a horlicks of a critical race start, Fuji 08, he bounced back and demolished China. Might add something to the mix round Singapore.

Hamilton stated that it was a mistake on his part and that he wouldn't have tried the move again given another shot at the race.

I don't think Hamilton was worried about Jenson being ahead in qualifying. Certainly not to the extent that he sent one up the inside of Massa in the way he did at the 2nd chicane.

Anyone else notice Button's "moan" to the team following the pit stops? He asked why they'd changed tyres when they did (and thus lost position) - only to be told by the team that the new tyres were quicker.

Had Hamilton done that, I reckon this topic would have been full of "Hamilton bleating again" type comments.

the dull thing about Buttons question is ..he was not quicker ..they did make the wrong call if his tyres were not already on canvas...but hindsoght is so wonderful ..given the circumstances they thought they made the correct dicision ..same goes for Lewis...it could have paid out but it didn´t...From that standpoint you would not make the choice you did twice..but tbh i think it was the correct decision,they just did not get it right in Q3..and that ruined it basically or ..better said Hamilton failed to adapt his strategy into something workable.

His head was working fine. Watch the video closely.. the move was well calculated. the only thing was that Massa turned in quite quickly. Hamilton just didn't put Massa's overly quick turn into those calculations.

Notice that Massa is the one that hit the wheel. Not Hamilton hitting Massa's side-pod.

It was just a racing incident. Maybe Mclaren can double the cross sectional area of the steering rods in the future.

Its clear to any driver that 2 in to 1 does not go through Roggia.
Hamilton had everything to lose as the champioship leader going in for that move.

3 years in F1 and he still hasn't learnt that the races lst more than 1 lap. It was truely a rookie move and he paid the price of not thinking.

I sit opposite a Hamilton fan at work. Suffice to say he didn't enjoy the race!
