Drivers being hard on cars

Hey all. Just wondering. It seems that some designers (Newey in particular? ) have a history of somehow having 1 car less reliable than the other. It's happening to Vettel seemingly this year, he seems to bear the brunt of reliability issues.

Some people say that he's harder on the car than Mark. I'm not saying this is wrong, nor am I saying this is right.

But didn't several other drivers get this as well? Kimi seemed to have more reliability issues than DC. Or it was the other way around, I can't remember. But I do remember Kimi DNFing every other race, in 2005 I think it was. And JPM too? But my memory doesn't go back that far

But then we saw Kimi, who seemed, from the then-available data, with him DNFing more than Coulthard, go to Ferrari, and he didn't have that many DNFs (relatively to his teammate).

Any thoughts?

I don't think a driver can really be so hard on the car that they would get a large amount of failures while their teammate doesn't. That is, if both drivers are driving in the same way (rev limit, speed etc.)
Of course, drivers make a difference when it comes to the "wear" parts - brakes, tires and stuff like that.
I once heard that Schumacher was using thicker brake discs or pads than his teammates because he was harder on the brakes though. I think they said it was because his driving style was to use the brakes and throttle at the same time in some corners or something like that.

yes some drivers have more empathy and others are lets cal it fist handed motorics ...and generally abeuse the car more.
On some occoasion you wanr your driver to search for the limits ..as seen by MS inMonza .you attack the curbs in free paractise to get an idea of just how far you can go at certain points of the track ...
others seem to have no mercy for the car and crash it over the curbs lap after lap.
