Speed helps as well, as Massa has shown. The F10 in Alonso's hands is a contender, in Massa's a mere upper midfield car.

Alonso needed help from lady luck, but he has done much to get to where he is. Putting his rise squarely on the shoulders of others mistakes means that he has made few when it counts while others have faltered.

Actually I just have to disagree, after his 2009 crash he just seems more hard-headed, he is way more agressive on track. Until Germany he has shown an good upward line, which just dropped after that race. I never ever liked Massa, I thought he was a pussy, but in this season he seems an whole different guy and I actually seem to like him more, imo he should leave Ferrari and go to another team, with Alonso in its team he will never ever come close to the championship, and I sure believe he could do it. If Massa shows to be faster then Alonso next year(if he stays with Ferrari) it would end up with the crying baby Alonso part 2.

Seriously, in Korea he actually could match alonso's pace quite well, in Germany he was in front for 3/4th of the race and he had the huge crash in 2009, did you expect him to be up to speed at the start of the season? He showed an upwards line through the season, and apart from that, what he won, he won it fair, we cant say that from Alonso.

With that, there is alot if difference between being quick and better then before, he lost the title in 2008 by one point and imo Massa is way better this season, much more constant.

And by the way, have you even expected Massa to have a run to his glory with Alonso next to him?

Alonso's race pace was better that Felipe's in 13 races this year. This is a guy who hasn't been at Ferrari for years and was still learning the ropes of the team and his car. I like Felipe, and didn't used to, but he can't hold a candle to Alonso. Fred can and does drive the wheels off of every car he is in, where Massa needs certain things from the car to do well in relation to his teammate.

No disrespect to either of them, but Alonso certainly has some pace in pocket.

Would the latest management of the team formerly known as Honda hire him? That is a different matter.

Brawn and Haug would not even consider Alonso for a moment as long as there are drivers like Vettel or Rosberg in the market. You would have to make those guys #2 to Alonso to make him sign a contract and the German home market would be rioting against that. You can forget Alonso at Mercedes!

Alonso with his #1 attitude would have a problem with Mateschitz as well. And as long as Vettel is their focal point they will never consider Alonso.

McLaren is destroyed for Alonso. Ron Dennis would not let him anywhere near his cars as long as he lives.

And Alonso wouldn't piss on Mclaren to put out a fire.

Don't forget that Massa was part in pissing away that championship. Bahrain and Silverstone were truly horrible. I still felt for him when he lost it in that cruel way.

Massa doesnt strike me as a Champion. Im sorry but he just does not have that little bit extra that makes a champion.
In 2008 Hamilton won because Massa made mistakes earlier in the season. You feel for Massa because he is a nice guy, but not a champ.

You may think nice guys dont make champs...but Hakkinen dispelled that IMO.
If I had a team, and I had to choose a driver? Alonso over Massa all day, every day. And even the staunchest Massa supporter would should cede that based on this year.

I think any driver in the series who got there on merit, not with their pocket book, can be WDC when the right situation is there. Webber was never considered a contender until he got a Newey car. Button was never considered to have the mettle, but he stepped up in the Brawn.

If Massa had a rookie beside him and a dominant car, I think he could step up to the plate.

True, however it was the Singapore fiasco with the pit box lights that lost him a certain win and really screwed his championship.

Don't forget, this is the guy that did beat an on form Schumacher in the same car a few times. The speed and talent is there but the confidence is lacking for some reason. I'm sure if Massa got out of Ferrari and into a Red Bull ( [-o< ) we would all see his true pace.
