From my understanding, Alonso gesticulated and then 15 minutes later when interviewed by the BBC congratulated Vettel on a fine championship and then lauded Petrov for keeping him at bay.

Unclassy?

PR speak. By then he had enough coaching from the Ferrari spin doctors. The initial reaction always provides more insight into the man than his later considered and in this case, advised actions

It is best to take any reactions of the driver during and immediately after the race with a grain of salt.

Emotions and adrenaline are pumping at levels we rarely feel, and Alonso was good to go back on his gestures and give props to those who deserved it, Vettel and Petrov.

You look at what someone does, not what they say.

If he listened to the Ferrari spin doctors he would be spitting feathers.
Face it the guy has a latin temprement, and he gestured due to high emotion(He just lost the WDC need I remind you).
15 minutes later he gives the guy(Vettel and Petrov) credit. you cannot just dismiss that as PR, it is what Alonso has said after all!

Launching into one because he waved his hand in these extreme circumstances is not at all fair. It doesnt give you insight into the mans soul, nor does it mean he is the anti christ incarnate as many on these pages already know as fact.

Worse things have been done and said by other drivers in far less extreme situations this very season. This thread needs locking before the anti alonso brigade go further and blame him for breathing...

+1

Amazing how people cannot see past a gesture, and yet dismiss the guys interview afterwards.

Vettel twirled his finger in reference to Mark after the Turkey shunt, but Vettel is one of the more relaxed people on the grid, and tends to think about what he says.

When emotions are high, most people, including myself, have said or done things that they regret in the heat of the moment. Hell I've even done it on this site. Nobody is perfect.

If someone has an anti-anything agenda, they will start a new thread if need be. Leaving this thread open will allow the Alonso bashers to do their thing in a small compressed space.

Sure everyone makes a hand gesture at some point, but it seems to me that Alonso spends most his time doing this. The guy seems to be a bad tempered wee s h one t who is too used to getting his own way. What amazes me is that there does not seem to be any comment from Flavio Briatore yet. And nothing from MrM who was so against an Alonso title.

I wonder if Massa will get his win in Germany back?

Unlike many people on this site, I don't care too much about the drivers personalities. I look at them like hockey cards, a bunch of stats with their strengths. I do find much entertainment value in their personality foibles, but really, I am more about the overall story and what they can do on the track. I don't translate my hatred for the Pussy Cat Doll's to Lewis's driving for example.

Alonso did some great things this year with Ferrari, and led the team when it seemed hopeless. He was the first voice I heard in the team talking up the title, and it almost seemed like it took a couple of races for the team to get behind his momentum.

What he accomplished this year, to me, can not be easily erased by his actions for the brief period at the end of the race :)

Well for me, sportsmanship still counts for a lot, and Aloonso is a bad sportsman. Simple as that.

No Schumi just parked his car on track to stop others from beating him.

Vettel made the 'woop woop' crazy finger about Webber.

Lewis publicly berated his teams strategy call over the radio. Thats like arguing with your girl in public. Uncouth.

Schumacher was better out of the car I must say.

Hrmmmm ... Schumi, unsporting to his fellow drivers?

One word : HUNGARY.

I'm sure Barry didn't think he was being too sporting then!
