How do you expect to win a world championship if you can't pass a rookie?

Any news on what Chris Dyer is doing next year? A Sabbatical? Or will another team snap him up?

some people excell at quick ad hoc decisions some don´t .it´s very easy to loose track at the pitwall with all the information available but changing all the time .
A go for it attack startegy is always going to look better ,and it feels also better even when you do not reach the goal.
ferrari did more of a play it safe thing and did not trust their car as well ...it was very easy on the soft tyres all year it seems so they were not the ones who should have the problems with these tyres and could possibly stay out longer than anyone...alonso
did play his part in questioning the endurance of the softs via radio...a lot of things
contributed to this cack handed decision..
But it´s over and they all should have learned a bit from it and look ahead .It feels strange to announce the change this late ...but who knows why they did it like that.

They announced it just after the 1st of january (which was a saturday). Smells of contract start and termination dates to me!
May have been decided in november, though.

The timing and press release infers that it is a considered organisational change. Yes, he was involved with the Abu Dhabi outcome, but none of us know of his performance during the season. For example, what was his role in the "alonso is quicker than you" incident.

A driver's race engineer is a very personal role, a bit like being his PA for the track. Maybe Alonso found it easier to relate to someone else in the team.

For all we know, Dyer may have simply wanted a change from all the travel. Or maybe the team think his skills would be more valuable to the team if applied elsewhere.

Conspiracy theories are intriguing, and a drama is always exciting. Reality is often more mundane.

"Ferrari's high profile new recruit Neil Martin will not travel to grands prix in 2011. Martin, a 38-year-old Briton who was a chief strategist at Red Bull, is heading the team's new operations research department, so is expected to stay at Maranello when the race team travels to races. Martin is to head the remote operations unit where a dozen engineers will work and analyse decisions away from the noise and stress of the pitlane and feed their conclusions to the pitwall, the news agency Sapa reported based on information from Italian media sources".

Very interesting. Remote control strategy decisions. Dyer should feel proud that Ferrari needs more than a dozen engineers to replace him. :)
I wonder what Martin and the "dozen" others do on non-race days.

Interesting move. So that's Leggard has gone?

Leggard at HQ - "So what is Alonso doing now, and what about hamilton?"

Smedley on pit wall - "Lewis crashed"

Leggard - "Incredible! What is Lewis Hamilton up to?"

Smedley - "He crashed, do you understand that message?"

Leggard - "Alonso must be really worried about how he'll fend off Hamilton"

Smedley - "Leggard you're fired, do you understand that message?"

Sounds more like Neil Martin is on "mission control" duty
