Renault R31

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Its a practice rig for tyre changes, so its probably from quite an old car....

It may be the remanants from the R28-01 chassis, i think that took quite a rear end hit into a a concrete barrier once destroying the rear end in that accedent.

Naaa. Sorry but as far as Im concerned they have purposely taken that picture away from anything interesting on the shop floor. My guess is its an old car used as a practice tool for changing tyres.

Isn't the airbox intake stretching a lot further in R31 than in their last year contender? Or are my eyes fooled by light reflexes?

Don't you see the differences ? the differnent airbox intake shapes for example :

And look at the R31 cockpit; its much deeper than the R30 one... (I mean the yellow line) :

And the V nose...

Think you are right, the R30s airbox from head on;

So....Vitaly is going to test the car first. I pray to god day by day since I found about it... I simply think that Renault should start thinking about taking a spare car for Robert as there might be no R31 after Vitaly's test drive :) you know corners and stuff...

The shape is different due to cooling purposes as KERS will be installed .

thats a r31 because the little inlet was not connected to the airbox it was a separate part it was connected to the part of the fduct that touches the wing, it may be for the gearbox or something, williams have used something like that in the past
