I would say an old BAR, my guess the 003. With some modern fibre glass bits slapped on of course!

That's a rape of history, heritage and other people's hard work.

Aaaaah unbelievable how they try to foolish us.
Do they really believe we are that stupid?
Do you know what is written on the sign?
You should send a message to the exhibiting company and complain about this.

You could kind of, sort of, look away as Mercedes did this last year around launch time with an old Brawn repainted for Petronas, fair enough needs must,

.... but that photo is absolutely mental. Who in their right mind authorized such a travesty? #-o

Its at Mercedes World in Brooklands. I have seen said travesty, and yes it is a fairly dubious method of exploitation.

BUT.

Rape of history? Thats stretching it a bit far.

A fellow F1technical poster bought a 2006 Honda F1 car and is due to spec it out to his needs, ie usable and fairly easy to maintain. He will even add an F1 technical sticker as a thank you to the fantastic posters who helped him long his journey.
Is this rape?

There was a spare Chassis going and Mercedes painted it in their colours as a demo, nothing sinister. Needs must as Feynman succintly put it.
If they bought the GP team, they can do what they like to the spares....

At least now we can see that only thing uglier than 2010 cars with 2010 wings is 2001 cars with 2010 wings.

Is this rape?
You can't compare that.
He is making the car drivable again but he won't claim that he had build the whole car. This car is a BAR Honda car and Mercedes claims its one of their cars which it never was and never will be.
What do they even say on the sign?

Well in fact its even worse some people will believe what is written on the sing.
Now imagine you stand next to them and try to convince it's noting more than a stupid lie. Will they believe you or what is written on the sign?

The brilliant thing is, the front wing cascades look like the sidepod winglets from the BAR 007 :p

Oh you can MEP, possesion is 9/10ths the law. If Honda were good enough to sell, Mercedes can do what they like to it. Same as the poster in question.
Basically you are missing the point of the excercise. Mercedes-Benz World dont have a spare £1 million to put a W01 Mercedes into its Brooklands venue.

There is also a replica C9 Sauber and various other caricatures. If you take it for what it is then you understand. 98% of people wont know the difference, and if it makes ther experience better then so what?
The people that know, will be pounding rounding the track in an AMG to busy to give a monkeys.

If you are hardened into wanting the real thing, go to Stuttgart and see it.

I am not sure things are as simple as you say.
What would Mercedes say if I buy one of their cars rip of the star but on my MEP symbol on it and show it in an exhibition?
What is the problem of taking one of the W01 and put it there?
Anyway they don't use the cars anymore.
They try to foolish the people going there.
Others do the similar stuff they all have to be blamed.

Btw: Going to Stuttgart to their museum is no big deal for me. I already was there 2 times but I doubt even there you will see all their F1 cars on a common day. I think they are stored somewhere outside public access.

Sometimes there are just no words..........

Not to worry. There isn't much longer left to go now and this kind of thing will cease to happen.

The W01 is expensive MEP.

Mercedes in brooklands is only a small cheap museum. Why put a million dollar car into a place no one pays to see. Its like a curio store that doesnt charge but has a fancy restaurant and cars you can actually drive for a fee.

Economies of scale here, having a WO1 in brooklands would not drawn in anyone, nor would it be a clever way of burning alot of cash.

I'm sure they'd be pretty pissed. However, buy the whole Mercedes operation and you can do what you like.
