What Benie makes clear beforehand and what he does are often two completely different matters.

They need a hot weather test, they'll have to use the Bahrain GP slot if they do. The question is where?

An infil race is so tempting, but who could stage it at such short notice? I'd have thought only Dubai or Abu Dhabi have the resources and weather for that. Abu Dhabi would break the 2 race rule, and Dubai is in the same country.

However Dubai must be desperate to get F1 wheels on their tarmac, even if it is only a test.

from James Allen's blog...
This means that the F1 teams will be back here for a further test on 8th March, which replaces the one scheduled for Bahrain.
I don't get why people are still speculating as to where it will be. it's been announced. :wtf:

edit: from Red Bulls statement...
The test scheduled for four days in Bahrain prior to the grand prix will now take place in Barcelona on Tuesday-Friday, March 8-11

The should try to test @ Sepang where the hotter condition plus the humidity might be given a more tough result on tyre. The tyre life might be shorter in hot condition who knows........ (i'm not an engineer though...)

That thread is about the whether the race should proceed or not. As that question has been fully answered, there is no need for aforementioned thread.

More chance of wet wether testing this time of year. But if they did, it would be a good enough track as a staging post.

Barcelona only backfills the Bahrain testing. There is still a gap where the GP should have taken place.

I wouldn't be surprised if the teams get restless and want to fill that with some testing. All the testing and training from the last few weeks will get rusty as they sit around waiting, and the alpha-male over-achievers will be pumped up & ready for action.

The other option is that they could choose to go rallying ;)

Dubai is allowed to host an F1 test I think, it has very annoying corners, altogether an interesting circuit with a few good passing spots.

No, the test in Barcelona is happening on the week that the GP was originally scheduled in.

It appears that this topic is now dead. The alternative test location and date has been selected.
