F1 Engineer on Reddit right now

Post

There is an F1 engineer on Reddit.com doing an AMA (Ask Me Anything).

Might be a good read here is the link

It could be anyone from F1T, engineering a simple prank.

Could be indeed. Would have been fun to prove it on there though.

They're not the first, and not particularly informative.

His page is a real mess to read and I am not interested to go through all this.
The questions he gets seem to be very shallow brained and the people hammer him down.
If he really is a F1 engineer and willing to spread some information or want some nice technical talks then he has to come to this place.
When he is doing his homework then he knows this place and is observing us right now.

I read part of the thread, thanks, very funny.

Well, at least now we know that in 2013 teams will try to get more RPMs from their engines. Apparently it will be hard to reach the 12000 rpm maximum that the engine must deliver.

This question gave him up: he works for McLaren.

The vagueness of the answers is hardly surprising. If this person does work for an F1 team and is found to be revealing team secrets than they will be right royally screwed, and on the dole que.

It's possible to be interesting and still non-specific about technical details.

In the AMA I did I never went into any details really, just gave advice to people who were looking for ways into F1.

I don't get this.
Why you know he works for McLaren?
Also I am not familiar with the 2013 rules yet (I start to care in 2013) but why should it be any hard to get 12.000rpm? The current engines can do 20.000.

"One of my co-worker got hired into a F1 team last September (maybe it's the guy doing the AMA?). "

Perhaps the Hispania / HRT guy accidented in Monza.

Sorry, mep, I didn't explain that I found funny that one of the answers were that teams will try to get more RPM of engines (now or in 2013, I couldn't understand which year he was talking about). This answer makes no sense, because RPM are limited now and in 2013 year engines will be limited to 12000 rpm. So, I did not think he's a real engineer. So, he must work at McLaren, a team which is out of the general pace, because he is not a real engineer. Ha, ha.

Ciro is grammatically correct.

12,000 Revolutions Per Minute = 12,000RPM

Whereas 12,000 RPMs = 12,0000 Revolutions Per Minutes

However, it is valid to use RPMs when talking about plural readings, ie:

"What RPMs are you getting on Eau Rouge?"
"The first lap was 17,500 RPM due to traffic, then the following 5 laps were 18,000, but as the tyres started to drop off they went down to 16,000 by lap 10"
"Yup, those Pirellis are certainly making it a tough call to go flat out."
"For sure, Pirelli's tyres have changed the game"

I prefer degrees per fortnight. As such, a modern F1 engine redlines at 1.31E+011 DPF.
