With the media competition of today's, F1 is in serious trouble. When I was young and handsome, which is a few years ago, everybody I knew watched the Sunday race. Not anymore.

MrE speaks from a certain amount of xperience here, as a team-owner for almost twenty years he knows that rain is indeed "the great equalizer", emphasizing driver's skills and courage. Except in case of Alain Prost perhaps.
X, the senile old b@gger doesn't deserve to be taken seriously, but your post is right on. F1 has reached the point where such insanity ALMOST makes sense.

Me, I think we need sections of track that drop or rise on hydraulic pistons, sort of like "Whack-a-mole." For added thrills, a sniper will shoot at the tires of passing cars. And one car, chosen at random, will have a live cobra wrapped around the brake pedal. Now we're getting nowhere!

i think they have lost the meaning of formula one, the pinacle of motorsport where eventually all cars will look the same and will go the same speed, i think they need to take it back to where rules were a bit more free and allow the teams to be creative .... now that will create exciting racing

There you go Don, as I recall from back when such pitiful old-timers as you and I hitch-hiked to the races, the very best opportunity for overtaking was when someone missed a gear, or Chris Amon's ' notorious Ferari 'box got stuck in third.

What if the FIA imposed a random gear-miss, like every third lap or so, orchestrated through the now standardized CEU,
or whatever they call that hocus-pocus apparatus these days?

Or walk the whole nine yards on the concept, MrE could impose it at his own leisure, whenever he starts dozing off?

There's a quick and easy fix for more overtaking imo; manual gear change w/ manual clutch. You don't want to go artificially creating actual mechanical and aero differences between the cars, just make more space for small differences in driver input to affect their speed.

No practice for drivers..... no development on engines..... budget control...... 1500cc turbocharged motors, and now.... artificial rain! Why don't they just put the drivers in a Sega arcade machine and we all have a LAN pow-how and forget about what motor-racing is all about. Stooopid! I think it's time for the old Troll to call it a day...
Technology... is a queer thing. It brings you great gifts with one hand, and it stabs you in the back with the other.

Why don't they put a rain button on the cockpit? Pressed only once a race..
Come back 747, we miss you!!

F1 is turning into a joke, thanks' in part to the X Games/ drifting generation that Bernie is trying to appeal to.
Boycott it! This will be my first year since 1984 that I haven't watched one F1 race. Mark my words!!

No way. Very unsportsmanlike.
Gun should be nose-mounted, with ammo limit pro race and FIA-decided activating/shooting zones. For safety reasons drivers equiped with bullet-proof vests.
Better then KERS/DRS/rain combined.

Professor Todt: By George, he's got it!
Now, once again where does it rain?

Bernie: On the plain!
On the plain!

Professor Todt: And where's that soggy plain?

Bernie: In Bahrain! In Bahrain!
The rain in Bahrain stays mainly in the plain!
The rain in Bahrain stays mainly in the plain!

Professor Todt: In Silverstone, Hereford, and Hampshire...?

Bernie: Hosni hardly happens.
How kind of you to let me come!

Professor Todt: Now once again, where does it rain?

Bernie: On the plain! On the plain!

Professor Todt: And where's that blasted plain?

Bernie: In Bahrain! In Bahrain!

Ive tossed the idea around before, but 2 minutes is too much time, im thinking 10 seconds or less. And it doesnt happen at every GP, its like a random thing.

Every year around the first week of March Bernie comes out with his latest idea to spice things up. It's almost as if he's got a financial incentive to grabs some headlines to boost the profile of F1 before the start of every season. Perish the thought!
