This is getting scary. Now Pirelli supports Bernie's crackpot idea (from Autosport):

"Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli has backed Bernie Ecclestone's idea of introducing artificial wet races in a bid to increase excitement in the sport."

How about equipping F1 cars with mandatory heaters and do some racing in winter on snow? That would be spectacular!

I think the answer to all F1's problems is...more pitbabes. Line the whole track and pit area with them. If there isn't enough passing to satisfy your short attention span, then you can always lie back and satisfy yourself to pass the time?!

I feel sorry for anyone who has to resort to Family Guy as a source of humour. #-o

Back on topic, I think anything that makes to driver work harder is a good thing for the racing. The theory behind the sprinklers is sound - a wet track evens things out a bit and tends to give more overtaking (but not nessesarily better racing).

If the cars were to have less efficient brakes then there would be morew overtaking. Having to drive stick (probably sequential but H shape would be better) would make the drivers work harder and drive better. Heck, if it were up to me I'd give them a clutch pedal!

@Andrew : Given Bernie's proclaimed admiration for vile dictators, I tried to find an image of Kim Jong Il causing a storm by shouting, but couldn't find one so resorted to Stewie Griffin ... If you don't get the reference, please watch this awful (but thankfully short) propaganda video : http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 6281028527#

They are trying to cut down costs by lowering the number of available engines and gearboxes each driver is allowed to have each season...in 2013 they will introduce new engines more environmentally friendly to use less fuel etc....BUT...at the same time they are talking about "artificial rain", changing track layouts which will increase costs a lot and they are going to be wasting water all over...IS THIS ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY RACING??????

What about recognizing a Family Guy vignette?

Anyway... just for you.

This is random. We call it "weather"

You're right, G, but the dejà vu got a hold on me... that's what I thought when he took the presidency of FOCA and pretended to get away with TV rights...

Time goes by. Wacko is the haircut (why nobody opposes Bernie's haircut? A mistery...)

Yes recognizing a Family Guy joke is probably just as bad!

I've got to get me one of those stones though. Due to the innaccuracies of the BBC I tend to look out the front and back windows of a morning and decide on the weather that way. However the weather stone is a technological advancement, and as such a must have!

There is some merit in Bernie's idea- wet races are always more interesting. How about having a little rejig of the calendar to put more races in the wet times of year- eg open/close the season with silverstone, monza etc, then stick the southern hemisphere in july/august, with the permadry (eg bahrain and abu dhabi) going wherever.

Of course that would be too easy.

If they really wanted to get rid of artificiality, the artificial track surface should be the first thing to go- those tracks are way smoother and cleaner than actual roads, so why not just spend a bit less money on them?

I REALLY wasn't a fan of these new adjustable rear wings, I thought it would make the racing gimmicky or "artificial" as some drivers have put it. Not to mention that adding an ARW adds more buttons to the already crowded steering wheel. Now Bernie wants to make it RAIN!? This isn't HotWheels, this is Formula One. His "rain" idea, along with the "shortcut" idea are ridiculous. I genuinely thought he was joking when he mentioned these. They say that the fans want more overtaking, but I for one don't. I want more QUALITY overtaking, not necessarily more cars passing each other. If you truly think that increasing the number of overtakes in a race makes it more exciting, watch a NASCAR race and tell me what you think afterwards.
