McLaren 2011

Post

Please discuss all things relevant to the McLaren F1 team in this thread in order to maintain a cleaner MP4-26 discussion.

And as mentioned in the Mercedes GP 2011 thread, posts from the car threads that are more team oriented will be merged into the these threads as seen fit.

Maybe we need subsections for teams as well as cars and races?

Yeah it would be a great addition, Car threads seem to be the most logical place to discuss a quick team affair so its not really the users fault though, I don't ave much to say about Mclaren right now though.

A "Teams and testing" subsection would be a good idea imo

Looking forward to seeing the finished product, it looks very raw in testing.

So we talked about the team in the MP4-26 thread and now we're talking about the car in the team thread!

I know! I think the mods are oversimplifying things by trying to seperate such things.

By trawling through the other McLaren thread and deleting posts it was only reduced by a couple of pages!

Any idea what colour tyres this was set on?

Don't say black...

You wouldn't put something like that on your car and put the laps in unless there was some potentially big payoff for it. When we'll see signs of it being used no one can say. I thought they might have had something implemented by now.

Not suprised to see winglets appearing around the sidepods. Getting stable airflow around there is going to be a major area of development for McLaren. However, putting winglets there will probably decrease the volume of air going through there.........

I hope McLaren don't need to call out British Gas......
I would think all the flex could be accurately tested in the wind tunnel, where there are no kerbs.

Could this device be to measure bounce and flex when riding kerbs as opposed to measuring basic flex?

Could they accurately test flex in a wind tunnel with a scale model though?

They probably have calculations to convert air measurements to 100% scale, but something as complex as flexing would be difficult to do on a scale model I'd have thought?

Good point I forgot they had to use scale in the wind tunnel.

No idea but I'd imagine the soft tyre would be a good bet for both times.

I think so too. Especially measuring really quick movements like when the car is braking hard then swiveling through the turns.
