Red Bull KERS strategy

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

simply doesn't exist =( Red Bull didn't run it after Friday.
It being KERS in any form, as opposed to "start-only KERS".

Wait, wasn't there some sort of agreement between teams to have KERS system this year? I can understand when smaller teams don't run it, but there is no excuse for Red Bull (of course only in the case that there actually is an agreement) Are they trying to make more enemies in this sport?

Why would they agree to give others an advantage? There was an agreement in 2010 to not run KERS, but there was no agreement AFAIK that meant all big teams had to run KERS in 2011

Well sure if there is no agreement than I guess it's okay, I just thought why would other teams bother with it unless they had some obligation to use it.

Reliability, they did have an issue with charging/regulation in FP1 requiring some fairly urgent sounding radio messages. Maybe figured they had more than enough time in hand didn't need the risk of a sudden issue spoiling a pole-lap.

....
Boy, real glad I started all this off pages ago with the simplest, least fanciful, most obvious option.

Now that's settled ...
What I now find really interesting is how precisely this story got out there.

Red Bull said since Friday they were terrified that other teams would find out they were KERS-less, and suddenly three significant blogs are primed with stories and inside information about start-line KERS. Commenters turning up with tales of knowing people at the factory who were talking about mini-KERS.
I have long suspected that team PR employ "operatives" to pump stories and spin into comment threads, they'd be daft not to.

All a bit cold-war spy film, well maybe, but it does smell like a deliberate smokescreen and obfuscation. Maybe we will have James, Ted and Adam explain the timeline and who tipped them, and we can then figure out if a 'project chaos' was launched.

When I said McLaren should have ignored FOTA and used KERS in 2010 I was laughed out the building. Now Redbull ignores the gentleman's agreement.

No there wasn't. Just give it a rest. This is why you "got laughed out of the building" You come in making a bunch of baseless claims as fact. Maybe F1T is not the forum for you. Check out autosport.

So I suggest this thread e renamed "Christian Horner lies. Never listen to Horner again".
Telling Vettel to use his KERS after Q1 so it wouldn't overheat... naughty!

Now we have established once and for ever, for all forum threads present and future, than anything out of Horner's mouth is worth... well... yes, that!
I am tempted to call a lie even now, and say that maybe, maybe they do have a start only KE_S after all?!?!?! Just another lie won't make any difference...

Edit: Kind of kidding there. They (at least Webber) got hunted down towards the end the the start straight, which suggests they were really KERSless, but you get my point about lying.

Actually, there was an agreement, well more of an understanding. When I say an understanding, it was more of an informal idea bandied about, in fact it was more like a drunken bet between the team managers.

Seriously though, its use is optional. If there was an agreement it wasn't a contractual one so it is not worth spit.

I'm still enjoying the fact that the 80hp 7-second kiddy-KERS remains a disadvantage after 3 years of development.

It was obvious from the start in Oz that although Lewis got off the line badly to the point that Mark had half a car length on him at one point, as soon as the KERS kicked in he left Mark for dead!
