Agree with you that are more or less he same shape, but in a picture of rbr an mc form behind I noticed that seen from behind, mclaen diffuser is narrower (with two footplates on both sides), while rbr is full 100cm width.

So I found it intersting that rbr having bigger cutouts ended with a bigger final section.

Do you agree on that?
Nope, sorry, I don't agree. What you're seeing is probably larger gurney flaps on those diffusers, since the exhaust is blowing over the top/outer surface of them. The more flow, the bigger the gurney. On the RB7 the flow goes under the floor so a big gurney flap on the outer edges would just create drag.

I'm sure that every team's diffusers are the max 1000mm width.

rb7 diffuser has no lateral footplates so it seems larger (maybe difuser width is the same, but is does not have lateral footplates).

Central gurneys seem of the same size on both cars; I am quite convinced thet also for mclaren most of the exhaust gas flow under the floor, and that on both rbr and mclaren gurneys are not supposed to be impinged by exhausts

How do you figure the exhaust gasses get under the floor on the McLaren?

I have written my point of view on that in the mp4-26 thread, on page around 147.

I do not copy it here because it is quite a long post; the basic idea is that exahusts follow diffuser's tip vortices.

Guys, what do you think about opening new thread dedicated to exhaust gases use 2011 (maybe with exception of FFE, already 32 pages long) ?
Seems like it will be one of main areas of development this year, and after 1st race is already hard to follow on separate car's and various other threads.

Good idea. I wanted to open it, but three new topics in a row seemed too much..

This comparison

seems to confirm that the last section of mclaren diffuser is narrower than redbull's

So the conclusion is that no one knows about the 5cm hole?

It seems it is not a porper hole, but a cutout instead
