Indeed, I'm not into sim. games for years, but I remember when I've played for hours constantly trying just to set fastest laps. You are looking at the screen, but with sort of daydreaming feeling of relaxation.
I think it's like that margin where two absolutely different states of mind meat - when you become so focused that concentration becomes obsolete since you're enjoying what you're doing, it fulfills you 100%, and therefore concentration commonly considered as something exhausting and burdening simply vanishes.
You can see it on many photos of his. He is in the cockpit, obviously focused on upcoming drive, but he looks as if he could fall asleep any minute, rather than to become nervous from trying to concentrate 100%. Call it what you like - nirvana, state of bliss, meditation...
