DRS at Monaco: Dangerous, Daring or Delightful?

Post

Sorry for this title, maybe a bit stupid

in real English.

For Webber and Barrichello it is too dangerous, but still the FIA has decided to allow the DRS in Monaco in Qualifying (is that correct?) and in the race.
I like the idea that it is allowed because I think Monaco is the only track (besides Hungary) where overtaking is nearly impossible.
And despite the overtaking allowing Pirelli tyres I think it would still be very hard to make a pass at Monaco. So I think it would be kind of ironic if they wouldn't have permitted the DRS in the Monaco race.
In Qualifying it is in my opinion maybe dangerous, so If I could decide I wouldn't allow it in qualifying, only in free practise and only in the DRS-zone to practise overtaking for the race and to find the right gearing.

But I'm not a huge fan of DRS after seeing how the Pirelli's degrade and permit passing. I think it is too easy, and it happens too quickly. No drama anymore, just a cut from the (bad) director of FOM, and ah OK, Hamilton passed Rosberg no big deal anymore. No sensation, very dissatisfying.

What will we see in Barcelona with the DRS-zone longers than 800m? I know on this track it is harder to pass, but even with the new "superhard" tyre there should be enough degradation to allow overtaking and close battles without DRS. So I think it will maybe be even more artificial than in Turkey... No thanks!

Sorry for my sh*tty English!

Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

Bottom line is the driver has the choice to use it or not. No guts no glory.

Apart from being dangerous at Monaco, there is really no where to use DRS to gain any real benefit.

It will obviously be activated somewhere in the tunnel.. the thing is the braking point into the chicane is about as bumpy as they get, and besides that the DRS is unlikely to provide a an advantage if the driver in front has KERS.

Hopefully it will set moves up to be either completed at the chicane or into tabac.

There's already a loss of downforce in the tunnel. I only hope no one gets hurt.

The drivers will use it only if they can get away with it and it makes them faster. I think they will use it down the main straight, up the hill and in between some longer corners. If they crash then they crash, it means they made a mistake and it's their own fault. Not the FIA's.

Allow it, these guys make big bucks (well, or pay big bucks hehe) driving these cars, which are already super safe, so i don't see why ban it. Not sure whether it would make more sense to use it going into the chicane or into st. devote, usually the tunnel makes sense, but i guess the other option is 'straighter'

Courage and bravado are easily found sitting on a couch or a barcalounger.

And I'll remind you that no driver has ever been injured or killed while doing something he didn't think he could safely do.

In the past turbo engines and active suspension including its 'stall device' were used in Monaco. I fail to see the issue with DRS.

If drivers dares to fool around with DRS at turn 8 in turkey, I dont see why they will have problem with Monaco.

We have enough Safety car periods at Monaco imo ;)

I´m not worried by Alonso, Vettel and the likes, it´s the other guys i´m worried about.
Not health wise but i can guarantee you there will be mayhem in the race.
The truth will come out...

Turn 8 in Turkey has what might as well be a mile of runoff area in comparison to anything found in Monaco.

Has anyone calculated that the DRS will have much effect?

The cars are at top speed for only a small proportion of the tract, this will reduce gains from it.

Also, the cars are going to turn up with enormous rear wings anyway. is the DRS going to give as big a drag reduction as before?
