Looks about 2 car lengths early in this pic.

Seeing this pic a quote from James Hunt I picked up the other day while watching a recording of the 1985 Belgian GP springs to my mind:
James Hunt wrote:What discerns a good driver from his lesser peers is his ability to use his mirrors.

When i saw this it happen on TV i thought "hamilton what have you done"

but later saw this and the video, now i'm convinced this was very poor driving by massa! Massa has been off form, and well, this proves it, massa should know to defend the corner much earlier!

anyone would think massa had been hit in the head or something ........

yeah i know, its a poor joke

do repeat the video at 0:01 several times clearly shows that maldonado did it early. Compare the racing line of the car behind Hamilton... my 2 cents opinion, that is the racing line that maldonado should go. When maldonado doing this, he use the term "defending" the position. For me.. this is a jungle law where the racer who want to overtake does not have a fair chance and have a big chance of possible penalty. So.. The FIA rules itself "does not encourage the overtakes" in F1.

Some people will not agree with me.....
How said that turning early is prohibited? It's the same thing as braking early... Hamilton was wrong on all cases. I don't know about the Petrov, because I did not noticed, but in any case, when a driver closes the door, the following driver must accept that and back-off.
Regarding the Shumi move, don't forget that MS had no tyres. And Massa did a similarly spectacular move on Rosberg at a point that nobody tried anything...

There is absolutely no way whatsoever that Hamilton's move on Petrov was either 1) unclean or 2) what caused Petrov to crash. You can see the replay here:

How do you suggest "the following driver must accept that and back-off". Typical arm chair driver  I guess he could just press the brakes harder? The only option Lewis had once Maldonado decided to 'close the door' was to cut the corner, which he did to some extent. With overtaking moves done under braking, especially 'out braking', the attacking driver is commited to the move and puts his trust in the lead driver using his mirrors. It's down to the attacker to judge the situation correctly, and it's possible Lewis misjudged this one and made a move from too far back. Regardless, there was no backing out once the move was made.

The drivers have an agreement with each other that they won't move around in braking zones - closing the door late effecitvely, because in F1 it will almost always result in a crash. When making these passes the drivers push the cars to the limit of their stopping ability, there's no such thing as backing out. Unfortunately, it's not like overtaking lorries in your hatch back.

Sutil's fault there, it was clear that his tire was punctured, yet he continues on and cuts off Hamilton, cuasing the chain reaction.

Completely wreckless from Sutil, should have parked it. One race suspension worthy in my opinion.

You know what is the best; Hamilton gets a penalty for an overtake where Maldonado just turned in, and Sutil causes someone harm and gets away with it without any problem. It wasnt even the case that sutil dodnt know about the puncture since he just continued on blocking Hamilton. completely ridiculous, even with a 'experienced' Race driver as support the stweards are complete unfair morons.

Yep, and then people wonder why Hamilton shoots his mouth off about the stewards being biased.

It was definitely dangerous, the tyre could have slipped off the rim and could have killed someone. But I think everyone of the top drivers would have done the same.

Sutil caused no harm (to Hamilton), Alguersuari did because he could not adapt his speed...

It's because he has an inability to accept any blame when he is at fault. The race stewards were 100% correct in their judgements. Evebn the BRITISH F1 pundits agree with the penalties and they are notorisly pro-Hamilton!

But I've borrowed from a Hamilton fanboy a pair of rose tinted glasses. Amazing! Hamilton is to become a Saint. Saint Hamilton. Patron saint for those who claim never to be at fault and can't help but blame everyone else.

That is just bashing, and the pundits arent pro hamilton, they are unbiased,

david coulthard is the reserve driver for rebull, so how is he pro hamilton?

anyways, i think this thread should be closed to be quite honest, its just fanboys vs bashers

Yes or it is an opinion, You think the move by Hamilton is wrong, I do not, it is a opinion not a fanboy comment.

I do not understand why, when someone supports his driver, he instantly is a fanboy, you have to explain me how having a different opinion and view on an incident is a fanboy comment, since I do not get it

Coulthard is maybe closer to being slightly neutral but I don't see the rest in the same way at all.

It is not bashing at all. Hamilton can never accept the blame. It is constructive critism.

I too, am not a big fan of Lewis.

He's a... 'I must win, whatever the cost' youngster.

Vettel is a more mentally mature young man.
