McLaren MP4-19 Mercedes

The diffuser is quite normal, what you can see at the bottom is the small ramped diffuser rising from the step\plank in the centre tunnel.

since the rear wing is such an important part of the aerodynamic package, wouldn;t it be a poor idea to run all these testing miles with a wing that won;t actually be used during the season. Sure they can put miles and testing into the machanocal parts, but isn't any aero work done on the track going to be forfeit?

At Mclaren's private test session in Valencia (20.01-23.01) MP4-19 ran with the strut as seen here http://www.formula-one.net/pics04/velke/22-01-12b.jpg & here http://www.formula-one.net/pics04/velke/22-01-9b.jpg

If you go the site and check the difference in the cars of David Coulthard and Kimi Raikkonen, you´ll see that Coulthatd has an MP4/19 fitted with a 2004 rear wing whereas Raikkonen´s has a 3-plate rear wing.

This must be some kind of comparison.

Bu the big detail is a new 3-plate front wing!

This must be one of the reasons why they are alone at Valencia...

there is nothing new about that front wing. I must say im becoming more and more dissappointed with mclaren. First they had to abandon the exhaust in diffuser concept and know it seems they have problems with the stiffness of the twin keel design. Look at williams, they produce a brand new car and its reliable right away.

Mclaren´s problem became more evident last year becuase of the problems of the MP4/18.

If you watch the daily photos at http://www.f1-live.com/en you´ll see everydar a picture of a williams, ferrari and a reanulkt stopped on the track with some kind of technical problem.

Indeed the 3-plated frontwing is nothing new. Even MP4-17A had 3-plated frontwing except for Spa & Monza configuration. Unfortunately one cannot see from the pics if DC's car has a strut on it's twin-keel or not.

Coulthard post a new valencia trackrecord. The last one also set by Coulthard was 1.10.21. But this time it was with the 2004 rear wing

mp4 18 and 19 both don't have strut on their twin keel.

Look at a couple of posts before where 2 links have been set to show that mp4-19 in its current version, as from Mclaren's private test session in Valencia (20.01-23.01) has a strut on their twin-keel. I'll post the links again:- http://www.formula-one.net/pics04/velke/22-01-12b.jpg & here http://www.formula-one.net/pics04/velke/22-01-9b.jpg

If you go to http://www.formula-one.net, you´ll get to a site of West, partner of Mclaren.

There you´ll find all pics from the mp4/19 that we´ve been talking about.

By the way.... Somebody earlier posted a quote in whiche there was a time from coulthard today....

where are the guys here getting info from the Valencia test?

Finally, can anybody explain me what the hell is this twin-keel?

I'm not paying either but you can read and contribute to the forums even though you don.t pay. If you go to atlasf1 search under readers comments and testing thread 2003/04. Tjeck out the last to pages 19 and 20. Otherwise look at http://www.f1racing.net they also have the story

In fact, after looking at testing pics from last week's Jerez test I could notice that both MP4-19 chassises were having a strut on their tween-keel!. This wasn't the case in the Nov./Dec. 03 tests! So those are some of the early modification already for MP4-19 there. Stiffness problems?

McLaren seems to be testing the '04 spec rear wing on DC's car but not Raikkonen's. and about the antenna , are they testing with a new type of camera..?

If you are referring to the "antenna" above the air intake, it's just a Pitot tube
